Cot training

LO is 9 months old, she used to sleep in her bedside crib and then at around 6 months grew out of it / refused and would only settle in bed with us. Her naps are currently on the bed/ sofa / floor blanket.

She sleeps well usually - 2 naps a day (1-2h) and 7:30pm-7am.
First she falls asleep in my arms and then I transfer her down.

I want to switch her sleeps into the cot now.
My plan is to start with daytime naps first - once she's used to those, I'll attempt the night sleep.

I attempted this morning, she managed 30 mins. Then woke up and I tried to resettle her but she kept waking/crying when I put her down in the cot.

Just looking for some tips / advice from anyone who's successfully done this! I prefer a gentler approach but appreciate there will be some tears and tantrums.

Well now I've just read it's better to start changes with the bedtime sleep! Now I'm extra confused 🫠

Hello. I did the same about the same time. My little girl was 8 months and slept in the cot at night but would only contact nap in the day. For me, it was a matter of perseverance and just accepting that it'd be a while before she got the hang of it. It's probably not what you want to hear but for me that meant simply establishing cot as the place to sleep and being unwavering about it. There's a lot of comforting and broken sleep involved but they do adapt. I think it too is about a month before she accepted it. 100% worth it though. I hope someone comes along with a better solution but if not I can offer my support and say it'll be tough but worth it if you just decide to rough it out and stick to it! Good luck!

@showersandflowers thank you so much!
She's currently sitting in my arms 🥲 first night going well haha.
She did 7.30-11.30pm in the cot, then woke up. Now cried hysterically everytime I transfer her.
Wondering if I should just stick to daytime naps and the first night stretch of sleep.
(Talking out loud hoping someone will reply 😂)

If she naps on a floor blanket would you consider a floor bed instead of a cot? We've just moved our six month old onto one as he was refusing to sleep anywhere but with us, I comfort/feed him then roll away, much easier than transferring!

No tips but following as I'm in the exact same situation with my dd who turned 8 months today - we are building her cot this weekend and hoping to transfer her in for sleep, particularly night sleep as she's started refusing the nectar to me after her first wake up around 11-12 and will only settle in bed with me. I had been able to transfer her back in once she fell asleep
Until recently but now she wakes up almost instantly and cries until she's back on the bed with me. I'm exhausted, can't do any kind of sleep training that might involve crying late at night as I've 2 older dc with school in am. If you find anything that works let me know

Encourage your baby to nap in the cot Retro Bowl College during the day to help her get used to the new environment.
