Grobag to duvet disaster!

I had a brilliant idea that my DD (17mnth) would sleep later in the morning under a duvet rather than in a grobag so tonight tried it out. What a disaster! She slept for 45 mins then woke up (presumably when moving around) and got very distressed. I've had to resort to putting her back in the bag and doing bedtime over again! She's still fussing and not asleep. What a backfire!
Any tips for a smooth change over or should I just ditch the idea until she's old enough to want a duvet?????

tuck it in side ways

you can get a lot more duvet tucked under

popsycal I was going to suggest that. It also works well when moving from cot - bed. Kind of restrains the little one in nice and snugly.

Unless you have a compelling reason to make the switch, I'd keep her in the gro-bag. A contented, sleeping child is a great thing!

Yes alternatively I kept dd1 in a grobag until we moved her from her cot. (which wasn't until 2.8 years)

My ds is in a bed and still in a grobag. She mves all over the place in her sleep, and would not stay under a duvet

NoNickname · 25/04/2008 20:35

I too couldn't move ds to a duvet until much later - somewhere around 3 if I remember rightly. I wanted him to have a duvet - as it matched his new, big boy's bedroom - but he was having none of it and we just postponed until a bit later. Once he seemed ready (he asked for it), the transition was as smooth as anything.

pinkyminky · 25/04/2008 20:37

I tried this a few times. Go back two the grobag and try again when you need the next size up, I couldn't be bothered with the waking!

onepieceoflollipop · 25/04/2008 20:38

I also found that the grobag was one of her sleep cues that she associated with bedtime and snuggling down.

Well she's finally asleep in the trusty grobag and the duvet's back in the box....!

probably bit young for the duvet and they can get really hot too so watch the tog rating.

Umlellala · 25/04/2008 22:00

You could keep the duvet out for daytime 'pretending' and playing going to sleep so she gets it, tuck dolly up in bed etc. We co-sleep a lot so dd was used to a duvet and pillows quite early.

But agree with if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 25/04/2008 22:02

Grobag do a duvet set (pricey though)

I've got something which keeps the duvet on the bed - hang on, I'll find a link.

booge · 25/04/2008 22:15

Give it a couple of nights and it might get better. We persevered with DD 18 months, she needs coving up once she's asleep but then stays under. She loves being in a bed just like her brother.

MNersanonymous · 25/04/2008 23:00

It's the Grobag First Bedding set. Absolutely fab, keeps ds tucked in bed so he can't fall out, covers can't fall odd. Nice designs and lovely cotton too.

Sound a bit pricey but remember it is for a pillowcase, sheet and duvet cover in effect.

ZeMNetterWithZeBigBoobies · 26/04/2008 13:23

I know what you mean but I got a kingsize duvet set and flat sheet and oxford pillows for £35 - was tempted though

With my ds I started by putting a big, cosy blanket over him for his daytime nap. When he got used to that we made the switch to duvet. Think he was just under 2. DD (21mth) has just progressed to duvet because she started taking her sleeping bag off. It is tucked in to the end of her cot but she is quite good at tucking herself into it. I use the Ikea cot duvets- they are very lightweight and easy for the children to move themselves.

pinkyminky · 26/04/2008 20:37

Soph28, I use a blanket or coverlett for DD's naps, too, but stick with the bag at night.
I only took DS out of his sleeping bag when he said he didn't want it anymore, at about 2yrs old.
