Where's the logic?

I'm in a bit of a vicious cycle with my 1 yr ds and his naps.

He seems to happily sleep a good 2 hours in the morning ( esp if he's gotten up at 6 as is increasingly the case, but that's another story!) but when circumstances mean he can't do this and I hope he'll have a long lunchtime sleep he wakes up after 1 hour/ hour and a half.

i'm not trying to be too controlling in trying to get to one long nap, but he's at a childminders 3 days a week where he does only get the chance for one nap. She's lucky to get an hour.. which means he's overtired in the evening which seems to be leading to early mornings... aagh!

Is there anything I can do or will it just sort its self out?

I have a similar situation with my DS (almost 1yr).

I think the problem is that he is overtired at lunchtime if he has no morning sleep and as a result he sleeps badly and wakes too soon.

I need to try and get my DS to have one sleep after lunch because that's the routine at nursery.

What I find works is to just let him have 10 minutes sleep mid-morning (usually in the car or in a sling). I make sure I wake him up after 10 mins. This is then enough to get him through to lunchtime without getting so overtired that he doesn't sleep well.

A good sleep at lunchtime means I can get him through to 7:30pm for bed, meaning a 6:30am wake up (almost acceptable!)

Does that make sense? Seems a bit rambly.

Yes that does make sense, I know it sounds silly to be getting worked up over naps when they're so many other things to worry about - or enjoy, but I do, and then get cross at myself for being cross about it

AAh the joys of motherhood!

It sounds like he is over tired.

MIne used to sleep better at night if they had slept well in the day.

What about a smaller morning nap and a longer one after lunch?
