My 6-month-old is waking every hour…

My 6-month-old daughter has gone from sleeping through the night (6-8 hours) to waking every hour until around 4-5am, and I don’t know why.

I’ve read about the impact of teething and sleep regression, but this seems different.

She’ll fall asleep on my wife (following a feed) and is placed in her crib at around 10pm. She’ll then wake an hour or so later when we’ll typically find her in a kneeling push-up position, having rolled from her back or side.

It’s as if she’s disoriented, doesn’t like being on her front and/or can’t understand how to find a more comfortable sleeping position.

She sleeps in a sleep sack, which might impinge her movement somewhat. She’s also currently very much enjoying learning how to roll/sit/crawl during the daytime.

If we roll her onto her back - which is her typical sleeping position - she’ll remain agitated and continue to cry/scream. So, typically we’ll have to lift her out of the crib, and hold her until she falls asleep in our arms (usually around 5-10 minutes). We then return her to the crib, placing her on her back, and slowly crawl into bed, our movements masked by the white noise of a Snuzcloud!

What is it that’s causing her to wake up? Why is she rolling from her back/side into a kneeling push-up position, having been fast asleep only seconds before?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated as we simply can’t exist on 2-hours sleep, and neither can she!

In the same boat as you

Has she got wind ? Try bicycle legs. Some people tilt the cot but check with medical professional first

Try different white noise, pink noise, brown noise, rain sounds etc

Get your wife to have babies pyjamas and beds sheet etc on her bare chest for an hour before bed so her scent is in all the bedding

Night light/no night light

Maybe swop the sleeping bag if that's not working you can get ones that tie at the bottom if your not comfortable with using a blanket

Mcalpol / anbesol if you think there's any teeth pain

If breastfed try a. Title of formulas for the dream feed

Is she too hot?

How long do you leave her to cry before lifting her up from her crib?

My baby never did well with transferring, she's at an age she's aware of her surroundings so if she's falling asleep on your wife then your moving her, she's waking wondering what's happened.
Would you work on getting her to settle in the cot at the start of her sleep?

Largely the issue will be that she’s not falling asleep in her cot. She falls asleep all cosy on her mum then wakes up when she realised she’s gone. You need to get her falling asleep independently in her cot - not an easy task but vital
