Baby sleeping with blanket?

My 6 month old has a blanket and it's such a comfort for her.

It soothes her, she naps with it and if she's sad it's a great tool to settle her and help her feel safe.

She's sleeping in her own room and is settling well, but sometimes she won't settle until she has grip of this blanket and I feel awful taking it away and sometimes it takes about 3 goes..
I'm in the UK, this is a cellular blanket from Tesco, not too big but too big for her to sleep with overnight.

What do I do? She loves it, is so happy with it, but I can't let her sleep with it overnight, can I? Do I get another and cut it small, so she has a grip of it but it's not big enough to cover her face?

Just to state, she doesn't sleep with it overnight currently, I just know she would love to have it there to soothe herself during the night.

Any advice would be welcomed 😊

I don't think blankets are a problem in themselves. Baby has to have their feet at the bottom of the cot and the blankets well tucked in. That's what I learnt on the NCT course and this is what the lullaby trust says....

Sleep your baby in the feet-to-foot position with their feet at the bottom of the cot. Firmly tuck in sheets and blankets (no higher than the shoulders) to avoid the risk of your baby’s head becoming covered by loose bedding.
If you use sheets and/or blankets we recommend using lightweight and not thick, fleecy or padded blankets or duvets. If you think your baby is cold, add an extra lightweight blanket or layer of clothing

Why can't she sleep with her blanket? It's literally what they are for, you just need to tuck it in and make sure her feet are at the bottom of the cot

Dd had a blanket as a comforter. She flat out refused to be swaddled and would scream for hours if we tried ao we did the above although from being very young. .maybe 12 weeks she could pull it up but she would also only ever sleep on her side or her front usually with her knees under chin and her butt in the air [still does this at 11] so we did kinda give up trying to fight it

If it's a cellular blanket you have nothing to worry about - even if it did end up over her face, they can breathe through them, that's why they're full of holes. My son had a Muslin cloth as his comforter and he used to put it over his face to fall asleep. Used to frighten the life out of me and I was constantly taking it off, only for him to put it back on again. However, I did a bit of research and realised they are perfectly safe too - you can breathe through the material so it didn't matter if he put it over his face.

I wold do as you've said, buy another & cut it into pieces (always good to have back ups) you might need to edge them to stop them coming apart,

once they're mobile in their cot putting their feet to the end & tucking them in isn't going to help.

besides she wants as a comforter, not a blanket!!

it's cellular but they can still get themselves tangled up in blankets, smaller comforter pieces are better. Plus you have several to swap about, when she pushes, or drops them in a puddle etc

She does about 3 rotations per night, mainly on her side and her butt in the air occasionally. She uses it as a comforter and holds it by her face and in her hands.

I deffo think I'll buy another and cut it up.
