Ditching the dummy at 4 months

Has anyone ditched the dummy before 6 months and got any tips?

DD2 is 17 weeks today, she’ll be 4 months on Friday. We are knee deep into the 4 month sleep regression, which started and has got gradually worse since she was 12 weeks. As a newborn she was an ok sleeper, and when she hit 12 weeks she started waking more frequently, she was staying awake for hours after her feeds, and needing more than just a poke in of the dummy a couple of times a night to go back off - over the last 5 weeks it’s got gradually worse, but I was getting enough sleep to manage.

However now the dummy is the bane of my life, she generally goes down to bed ok, usually does 2 hours or so, but once the dummy falls out she needs it putting back in again, and this then happens the for the rest of the night every half hour to 90 minutes. If you don’t pop it in in time she becomes hysterical.

She’s also pulling it out a lot herself, I’ll pop it in, and she’ll pull it out, and then cry because she doesn’t have it.

I’m so sleep deprived, and also have a 4 yo, so I can’t just sleep when the baby sleeps in the day. DD1 had her dummy until she was almost 2, with no issues.

Anyone have a tips to get rid? Co-sleeping is not an option here.

This is exactly why I gave up with the dummies at 4 months with mine. It’s a killer getting up through the night just to put the thing back in!
Took a couple of nights of sush patting but we got through fairly easily. Mine were not fully BF so that might have helped, who knows

She’s exclusively formula fed, has been since birth, we’ve been down to one night feed for a while now.

Just give it a go. We shush-patted through the nap cycles and at night for a couple of days and then we were fine.

We also ditched the dummy at 4m for this reason. It's really hard but we just comforted him without using it (rocking etc) and within a few week he never wanted it again. It's not easy but you just have to be consistent I see my nearly 2 year old nephew with one constantly in his mouth day and night and I'm glad I did it.

we ditched the dummy at night time at 4 months for this reason. DS went from sleeping quite well at night with long stretches to hitting the 4 month sleep regression and waking every 90 mins and needing dummy back etc. we did ferber sleep training and ditched the dummy at the same time, took a couple of nights and he now consistently sleeps through without the dummy at night (he's 11 months). we do always give it to him when he does the classic early morning baby stir around 5am and then he happily goes back to sleep until get up at 6:45, we do feel not giving dummy until about 5am does help prevent the early 5am mornings that babies try to have. he still naps with the dummy and has it in the car etc or when really upset in the day but happily goes to bed without it because he just knows now he doesn't get it at night. we try and really limit when he has it in awake day time now only to when he's super upset and inconsolable (usually teething related)

in regards to tips for doing it - just remain consistent - they will get used to it and much easier to ditch at night at this age than compared to 2yrs etc.

We also ditched it for the same reason just before DS turned 5 months. We did Ferber sleep training at the same time.

Does baby have a favourite comforter? When we ditched the dummy around 5mnths my son adapted over a couple of nights - but his Jellycat bunnies became essential at night!
