Sleep consultants - are they worth it?

My almost 12 months sleep has been bad pretty much ever since the 4 month sleep regression. Starts off in his cot but wakes 3 hours later and almost always ends up in our bed and then wakes up multiple times a night. I'm at the point where I'm so tired I just need some advice from a professional really. I have tried Ferber which didn't work. Don't want to do CIO so I'm at a loss. Has anyone used a sleep consultant and if so would you recommend?

Jumping on here as I'm wondering the same thing, we are in pretty much the exact same situation with my 1 year old!

@1992H I've bitten the bullet and hired one! Will update on the progress. Last night was the 1st night and was not for the faint hearted 🤣

Good luck! We hired one when I was collapsing of tiredness from lack of sleep and having to work full time. The implementation of the plan was tough, but in 3-4 days we saw results and from then on had a child who slept through without looking back. Mine was a bit older. For us it was completely worth it.

@ReadyfortheUnknown was night one the worst for you? I must admit a points last night I was ready to give up and just bring him into our bed.

We paid £120 at 4 months old and it was worth it. Wouldn't pay more - they didn't tell us anything we couldn't have done ourselves but it's just helpful to get one informed opinion and stick with it.
More recently we've done pick up put down and had good results.

@Haaaaaaan yes that's what I need. Just needed a plan and to be able to stick to it. So helpful having a sleep consultant as she's on the other end of the phone if I have any questions. She's already slightly changed my plan based on how last night went. Fingers crossed

Surely most of them won't tell you anything you don't already know.

Start a thread on mn and many posters will give decent advice.

Hello! Please can you tell me how it's going? My 12 month old has slept badly since 4 months, he wakes at the same times every single night, 10, 1am, 3am, 4am and then at 5 he won't go back to sleep. We are seriously considering a sleep coach, has it helped?!

Lizbiz89 · 20/01/2025 07:40

@HeatherandArthur yes I would highly recommend! We used blissful baby expert. Absolutely fantastic. She changed my life! Have a look on her Instagram and website because she has loads of free info on there as well. Even has schedules according to age. Amazing lady.

I did my sleep practitioner training and wish I'd done it years ago when my DC were small. The one thing that stood out to me with regards to my own DC was consistency in atmosphere. We all semi-wake frequently through the night and wake if our brain recognises changes. If your child falls asleep with a nightlight, background noise, the door open a crack or you present, don't change it as they sleep. If they partially wake and all is the same, they should continue to sleep. This means if you want them to sleep through without you in the dark, then that's how they need to fall asleep. Obviously other factors come into play, like comfort, temperature, hunger, health...
