12 month old naps

Hi All,

My LO has turned 12 months on 28th September.

He still has 2 naps but my oh concern about it is that they are longgg. It can sometimes be 2 hours each and it worries me.

How can I ensure a healthy and good nap schedule for him?

Why are you worried? Does he sleep well at night as well?

I'm just worried what if he sleeping that much for a nap because he isnt well fed so is sleepy etc so many things come to mind and I guess PND makes me worry more. At night he wakes 2 to 3 times and is breastfed and sleeps again

Unless you other have concerns with his weight or general development this is likely to be normal. I would potentially see if cutting the morning nap off at 30 minutes, with a longer post lunch nap helps your night wakes. It may be that he’s napping in preference to night sleep - a bit more sleep pressure might reduce those wake ups down.

Do they sleep at night too? If you have no issues getting them to sleep at a decent time at night just stick to this schedule for now and enjoy! You're very lucky haha

When he starts not being tired enough for the 2nd nap or refusing to go to sleep at night, that's when you drop to a single nap after lunch

2 naps are normal at 12MO. The typical age to drop to 1 is 15 months. A ‘typical’ or ‘ideal’ 12MO schedule would be something like 12 hours uninterrupted overnight, a nap of 45-60 minutes in the morning and 2 hours after lunch. If your baby is still waking 2-3 times a night then you’d probably expect them to have a bit longer for their first nap to compensate. Based on what you’ve said I wouldn’t worry.
