5 mo old too distracted to feed

My 5 month old daughter has recently started being so distracted and fidgety when feeding during the day. She's on formula and rarely taken more than 5oz at a time, but at the moment it's a battle to get to about 3oz! She'll take a few gulps like she's hungry but soon starts playing with the bottle, looking around at everything, chatting to herself and wriggling before she just starts pushing it away.

I wouldnt mind or worry as much but shes started waking for an extra feed in the night and cant help thinking its because she just wont have enough throughout the day! Will she just do this til she's on solids now? She's only had a few tastes of purees so far. Losing interest in mik? Although she drinks at night with no problem.

Has anyone experienced this?

Sorry I have no advice, but following as I’m having the same at the moment with my 4.5 month old!

My daughter went through a phase like this, I started to feed her upstairs in a quiet room with no tv or toys to distract her. I wouldn't make eye contact with her, usually had a book perched on the arm of the chair to read. I made feeding a quiet rather boring time for her and her she eventually settled and took her feed.

It’s the four month fussies!! Completely normal, your baby is just becoming more aware of the world and is finding hard to concentrate on feeding. it does pass with time.
definitely find quiet spaces and be away from others when feeding. If I had to feed out I would drop a muslin over her head. I always thought women did that to hide their boobs before I was a mum but now I think most are just trying to get their baby to concentrate!
Here’s an article about it…

What happens at four months? - La Leche League GB

After the first three months, many mothers start to settle into a bit of a rhythm with their baby and begin to feel like life has become a bit more predictable. Then around four months (or anywhere between three and six months), babies seem to change a...

I only fed upstairs in the dark at that age otherwise they wouldn't feel properly

Same here! Nearly 5 months and it’s been going on for around 4 weeks now. Also having issues with extra night feeds. I’m EBF and the amount of unsettled nights definitely increased since the feeding went off during the day. I’ve found it improves a little if in the quiet dark room but this obviously only works if you are at home etc all day.
