please help me someone with a solution or words of hope or anything. i need to rant! my dd2 who is 15 months old has always breastfeed 2-3 times a night and it has never usually been a problem for me, but now for the past 2 weeks she has been waking every 30-40 minutes crying at night and will be only consoled by the breast i have tried water, cuddles but she screams blue murder like she has never seen milk before, depsite eating well in the day. I am so tired that it can take upto an hour for my milk to let down and this frustrates her even more, i have to keep doing deep breathing and swapping breasts and positions over and over again so that my let down occucrs at which point she stops fussing, take a sip for 2-3 minutes and then goes back into sleep instantly only to wake up half an hour later. then she is bright eyed and bushy tailed at 6 am, as is my 3 year old. is this because of teething, she is cutting her molars now? will it pass? i am starting to despise breastfeeding and even being a mum, i am too tired and ratty to do anything all day.

really well actually- she's been waking up no more than twice i think, with calpol and porridge at bedtime.

but she's woken up with a cold and temperature, runny nose and the works, so i'll probably be back to square one!

Right. I shall try porridge too. Too late tonight, but tomorrow night for definite. (We have progressed to every 1 1/2 hours. Which is better, I suppose, than every hour, but not a lot better!)

sherazade · 18/04/2008 18:24

try it and let us know how it goes.
last night she slept HORRIBLY. blocked nose. aggh. is not eating either due to being ill. i hope when this is over we can go back to the porridge .

isn't it hilarious how , as soon as you think you've cracked it, they become ill?

Not only am I OVER THE MOON to have found this thread because 13 mths DS is a shit sleeper, but also because my eye has been twitching continously over the last few weeks and it's been driving me bonkers thinking I've got some horrific eye problem ! LOL !!!

Yep, we're in the middle of a cold too. Actually, DD has had one after the other since October and it seriously interferes with her ability to self-soothe - normally she sucks her fingers and since she can't do that at the moment AND breathe through her mouth.... Well, let's just say, I'm getting a bit tired here.

sherazade · 20/04/2008 07:48

well i have been exclusively breastfeeding my nearly 1.5 yr old thanks to the cold :-) needlessly to say, she is on the boob all night long.

Oh poor you. It really is so hard, isn't it? And worse still when you have a jealous and vocal toddler to deal wtih. I often think that if I didn't love DD as much as I did, I'd just let her cry.

I have now trained DH into offering only sympathy - no suggestions, no solutions, no empathy (he once said 'I can imagine how you feel'. He didn't say it again!), and I find that a regular dose of 'poor Corrie' works wonders.

You're probably already aware of this, but have you tried the Sudafed plug-ins for when your dcs have colds and are having difficulty breathing? My HV recommended them to me and they are a lifesaver, with a dab of vicks on the chest (once they're over 3 months, I think?) dd went from being a snuffly, wakeful baby when she had a cold to one that slept contentedly and didn't cough half so much in the aftermath either.
