Is baby too cold

Hiya! So I just want some advice from other mummy’s. I’m a first time mum and paranoid about overheating and what baby should be wearing to sleep!

so baby usually quite likes to sleep in a vest or even a nappy sometimes depending on the weather. So tonight it’s 24.8 in the bedroom (however it keeps fluctuating getting hotter one minute and cold the next) and she’s been in a strappy vest she’s fallen asleep in just the vest but seems very happy and content. I’ve felt her arm, legs and chest and think she feels a bit on the cooler side should I be adding another layer like a sleeping bag or just letting her sleep like this. I know they say if she was cold she would let me know but I just don’t want to do the wrong thing I’m worried it will heat back up again when I’m asleep and she will get too hot.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I wouldn't add anything, that's a warm room

How old is your baby? 24 degrees is very warm, I would put baby in a vest and pop on sock if you want to keep the feet warm or I would put them in a baby gro without an inside vest.
From what you've written baby seems fine. Congratulations, you're doing great 😊

Back of the neck was my area of choice Grin

Sweaty, remove layers. Cool, add layers.

Thank you, she’s 9 weeks☺️ yeah I guess it’s a lot better for her to be slightly on the colder side rather than too hot☺️

I read the following when my little girl was tiny (she's now 8 months) and it seems to have worked well for us, she's a great sleeper!

Over 24° - just a vest
20-24° - sleepsuit
16-20° - sleepsuit with sleeping bag/blanket

She absolutely hates anything covering her though so we weren't able to use sleeping bags or blankets even in the winter when she was tiny, so I just doubled up with a vest under a sleepsuit.

When I put her to bed tonight her room was 23.9° so it could have gone either way! I put her in a sleepsuit but a footless one and she's still asleep from 8pm (so God knows why I'm still awake).

You get to know them. When they're tiny they are strangers, really.

I worked out DD runs hot and now she can go in the sea in December at 13yo. Strange child Grin

Arms and legs will always feel cooler. It’s best to feel their chest or back of the neck to see if they are warm.

Thank you so much for all the advice, makes me feel so much better☺️

Oh me too, she’s been asleep since 9 and I’m still at the stage where I feel like I need to constantly watch her🤣 one day I’ll sleep again🤣

I agree with PP, I was always told that it was OK for limbs to feel 'cooler', as I had similar worries!

I remember learning about homeostasis in biology (the ability to regulate body temp); children get it around 9-12 months.
