12 month old ready for 1 nap a day??

Anyone have/ had a baby that was ready for 1 nap a day at 12 months and by dropping to that 1 nap they actually slept better?
Everything online is telling me it’s typical to have 2 naps a day for much longer but I wouldn’t call my little one typical 😂 she’s a total whirlwind, does not sit still for a second. She’s really started to protest her naps, today she was up at 6am napping by 11am slept for 2.5 hours then asleep by 6pm but by about 5 she was starting to flag but way to late for a second nap.
Ive been spending up to 2 hours to get her to nap with lots of tears and I wonder if she’s just not been tired enough? But I don’t want her to become overtired and then in turn have more wake ups overnight?
So after rambling what I’m asking is when did your little one drop to 1 nap a day?

My son was having either 1 or 2 naps at 12 months and fully dropped the morning nap at about 13/14m so I think it’s ok

Forgot to say she’s still a week off 12 months.
@Throwwaway thank you! X

DD1 dropped to one nap at 11 months. Shed been ready at 10 months, but we tried to keep two going because everything says ten months is way too early. All that got us was a month of miserable bedtimes and naptimes because she just wasn't tired.

We try to learn from our mistakes, and DD2 dropped to one nap at 10 months.

Mine dropped to one nap at 11 months on the advice of a very expensive sleep consultant. It was literally the only way to get her to take a nap longer than 33.5 minutes. Whirlwind was the best description for her as well!

It sounds like a good routine with the one nap and early bedtime. You don't have to stick to one nap everyday though. If you do an activity in the morning she could have a much shorter nap and a 2nd one in the afternoon in the car/buggy on the way home. If you're home, one long morning nap is fine especially is she sleeps well over night!

There is no benefit wasting 2 hours of your life getting her to nap though!

Both of mine dropped to one nap most days around 11 months by themselves, we were never routine people. It didn’t make a difference to either of their night sleep.

combinationpadlock · 09/07/2024 18:37

mine had 0 naps by then

@Jk987 you are absolutely right it is just a total waste of time and actually just upsetting for us both.

Definitely dropped to one nap a day quite a bit before a year here. But it is hard to fit in two naps around school drop off/ pick up so it was out of necessity really- but worked fine!

Drop to 1 nap and move it later by 10mins or so each week until it's afternoon I find normally around 1 they have early lunch and nap about 12 then it gets to normal lunch nap 12.30

BuffaloCauliflower · 09/07/2024 21:43

Missed the two hours bit, definitely don’t do that. If they’re not asleep within max 15-20 minutes, they’re not tired enough and you should give up.

bakewellbride · 09/07/2024 21:44

Forget what it says online - one of my friends baby's stopped napping completely at 14 months 😳 they're all so different

ihateteatime · 09/07/2024 21:46

Sometimes, it’s tricky when she has a mega nap for three hours and it’s say 1030 - 130. Her next nap by the clock would be 5 but that’s too late so have to try to push through until half 6.

Sellingbedtime · 09/07/2024 21:50

I would say my youngest dropped to one nap at 14/15 months. He is nearly 2 now and still has a 1-2 hour nap in the afternoon.

I don't think there is a right or wrong with this, just whatever works for your baby.

goingdownfighting · 09/07/2024 21:56

That sounds about right but it's a pain as for a while as mine wanted to nap either before their lunch, or fell asleep eating it.

It should shift a bit later. Just go with it.
