Nighttime accidents

I have a 10 almost 11 year old that wets two or three times at night there is no reason for it as we cut off all liquids at about 6:45 every evening don't know why we've tried just about everything we can think of to get him to stop wedding himself at night from alarms to waking them up all the time about every two hours all through the night. the only thing that affected was his grades in school they begin to drop so we stopped all that . Then his grades came back up a little bit but my question is should I put him in some type of overnight protection like overnight diapers to stop this from happening and make it a little bit more sanitary as he shares a room with his 8-year-old brother who does not have this problem open to suggestions although we have already taken him to the doctor and the doctor says that there's nothing wrong have taken them to several doctors all of them say the same thing so we don't know what to do right now wanting to know what the best route would be aside from just flat punishing him for doing it

Has he been tested for diabetes?

WeakAsIAm · 03/07/2024 05:45

Speak to your GP and ask to be referred for enuresis (nighttime wetting) support. Your local trust should have a clinic.
There is medication to fix this you don't need to struggle like this forever.

Also may be I don't need to say this, but it's not his fault this is a medical condition he's not 'doing this'.

Oh and if you don't seem to get anywhere with your GP quote the NICE guidelines GC111.
GPs love to be put in their place when they fail to follow national guidelines.

Obviously they don't but the guidelines show them you mean business, know your rights and sometimes point out the guidelines exist because they were not aware of them.

Good luck

You can't punish him for it!! Crikey, have a look at Eric website and grab some pyjama pants.

If he has always been like this you have two options; go to GP for referral to the continence nurse or wait a bit longer in the hopes that he grows out of it.
Either way stop waking him up and restricting his life. Buy some pyjama pants and read up about nocturnal enuresis. Why on earth are you blaming him? Btw there is likely to be at least one other child and maybe more in his class who are still not reliably dry at night. It is not typical but normal is it abnormal.

Yes he has been tested and it came back clear no diabetes

I live in the United States but we are doing the best we can with that part his main doctor has him doing a sleep study in about a week to see if we can figure out what the cause is for the nighttime bedwetting after that we will continue to monitor things and see where they go but do have appointment with GP in 3 weeks after specialist appointment next week

Definitely not punishing him just trying to work with him to get the best results if possible we are on summer break here so we are doing the best we can to see while we're on summer break what we can do about it when school starts back though I do not wake them up in the middle of the night I just I like my sleep and I don't think that they would like to be bugged like that so I don't do that if that makes sense but even in the summertime we're not waking them up in the middle of the night we just do what we can to minimize the issues and keep on going with life
