3 month rolling over while trying to sleep

My DS is 3 months. He has always been a good sleeper. Stays asleep and will get himself off to sleep. He sucks his thumb to get to sleep. He has always moved around when asleep.

The problem now is he is starting to learn how roll over. When he is sucking his thumb, to go to sleep, he sometimes rolls over onto his tummy. Its like he chases his thumb. He doesn't know how to roll back so he gets very upset. He is able to roll onto his side when he is on his back but not from his tummy. He will just hold his head and start crying - he hates tummy time. Its only when he's getting to sleep. He's fine once he is asleep.

Any advice?

I had the same and we just had to ride it out. We spent a lot of time in the day practicing rolling - specifically rolling back. Once they are confident rolling both ways they will just do it in their sleep without getting upset.

Forgot to add that the best way we found to practice independent rolling back without doing it for her was to let her track a toy and move it behind her head, so her head would turn back and body follow.

Thanks. Will definitely try that. Tummy time has always been hard. He hates it. Do you have any tips for sleep until he learns how to roll back?

What about a towel rolled up and put under sheet? Just make sure it is from the hip downwards to prevent suffocation. Might stop the actual roll until they learn how to flip back.

We just ended up leaving her to it and rolling her back whenever she got stuck. Sometimes she’d find her own way back but it was a couple of weeks of repositioning at night.
Tummy time got better for us once she was confident rolling both ways and she was happy to roll around the room all day.
