Can anyone recommend something I can buy to please help me sleep! I suffer so badly with the general ‘sleep’ feeling and find it so hard to sleep at night. Most nights I’m up until 5am and I have a toddler as well! I don’t know what’s wrong with me I just cannot chill out or switch off. Can anyone recommend something I can buy that will genuinely help? Thank you 🙏

I find ear plugs help. I don't know why. Not a great mix with young children but you can ones that reduce not totally block.

I have a bath in magnesium bath salts every night. Both the relaxation time in the bath and the magnesium help. If you don't fancy that, try magnesium tablets in the evevnings. Magnesium is known to help with sleep.

Melatonin?

I know you can buy it over the counter in the US. I asked my GP to prescribe it she refused, saying she wasn't allowed to because it wasn't safe.

Wearing socks def helps. Something about regulating body temp to assist in going into deep sleep. The important sort of sleep!
Also ime a cool shower before bed..

@dizzydizzydizzy you can get it from Biovea. I take 10mg at night and it works well.

@notmoredirtywashing just reporting my GP's advice. I've no idea what the issue is.

I take a magnesium tablet and a tryptophan tablet an hour before bed. I genuinely do think it helps with my chronic insomnia. It doesn't knock you out, but makes you feel sleepy.

Another thing that helps is switching to fairy lights only in the evening. No big light or bright lights. If I'm watching TV, I turn the brightness down on the display. Wearing yellow coloured glasses can help too.

It's not really possible at this time of year, but keeping the bedroom cold makes a huge difference. 18c or under is about right for me.

You might also find some ambient noise useful. I have a Bluetooth speaker next to my bed with heavy rain or waves. Something with quite a low hushing sound. You can get apps that you can mix sounds on, including brown noise. I use this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.metapps.sleepsounds

Passion flower tea knocked me out when I had some. could also be worth a shot.

Magnesium is good. Lavender oil in the bath and on pillow cases helps. CBD oil has a general calming effect (I get it from Savers). Valerian helps some people but I find it makes me sluggish the next day. Twinnings Sleep teabags - 2 bags in 1 mug - are good. Lying in bed on your back and consciously relaxing and breathing deeply is also helpful. And enough exercise during the day in the fresh air, even if it’s only walking, is crucial.

You could try lavender capsules - you do get lavender burps so take it early in the evening with some food. They are anti-ds but also should help with anxiety. Also magnesium glycinate-these are big tablets, I take bites of a third through the afternoon and evening.
