Success Story

Just want to share my success with you all as the message board has helped me so much. My dd had only slept through the night twice in 9 months and was waking every hour and would only be bf or cuddled back to sleep. We tried 'no cry sleep solution' and 'baby whisperer' but it didn't work. When she was 9 months old we decided to go with controlled crying. The first night we sat with her til she went to sleep which is something we always do and then waited!! She woke up at 8.00pm and cried for 15 minutes and then at about 2.00am for 40 minutes. Then slept until 7.00. We went in when she started crying, checked she was ok, kissed her and told her it was night nights and then left the room and didn't go back in.
Two months have now passed and she now sleeps from 7-6 and is a much happier baby, and we are no longer having a nervous breakdown!!! I know a lot of people dont agree with cc but it is the best thing we have ever done.
Sorry for the long post but I know how much help I gained from reading things like this.

Glad it worked out. It's great to hear that when people decide to do what's right for them it can work.

I know a lot of people favour a gentler approach but your post shows the cc route does not have to be all tears and tantrums (and that's just the parents!).

Wonderful, thanks for sharing the good news
Time for a new MN name!

Looks like you did your research (including on this useful thread),
listened to your lo and to your instincts and then went ahead with
the sleep training method that appeared most appropriate for the
circumstances - and it worked out, we hey!!

I have to say, once the whole family find a happy compromise on the sleep front
the baby and toddler years are actually really quite beautiful. Enjoy!
