Basically as the title says!

My DS has become absolutely impossible to get milk in to during the day - he is just not interested and would much rather have solids.

The problem is hes waking up around 4 times per night and having full feeds (bf)

Is he too young to start to might wean? Im absolutely exhausted. Have tried feeding in a boring dark room, bottles, cups, formula, hot milk, cold milk...everything!

This sounds like reverse cycling.

The big question here is, I think, whether he is truly hungry in the night, or perhaps that he just can’t settle to sleep without drinking. You need to maybe try break the association between milk and sleep.

But, if it IS hunger….

How often do you offer milk during the day? Reducing the number of feeds offered should mean that he is willing to take bigger feeds when the chance is given.

Along with this, I would say for you to increase the calories in the solids you offer- lots of fats and proteins during the day will keep him satisfied through the night.

My son took a good amount of milk and solids until he was 13 months, whereas my daughter was slow to take to solids but when she did, she went right off milk at around 9 months. So all babies are different and you can’t force them. I think the NHS advise a multivitamin if they take less than 500ml in a day, so it’s accepted that some babies just aren’t interested! It’s obviously less easy to judge exact quantities with BF.

The CALM book by Hannah Love Costello has excellent advice and sample schedules which completely changed how I viewed the relationship between diet and sleep. She also writes about night weaning and the importance of separating feeding and sleeping. Highly recommend. She also has a great Facebook page and will do Q&As on there.
