My 2 year , 4 month old is dropping the nap

She's been fighting bedtime for ages and won't sleep until 8:30/9pm despite us trying to cut to 45 minutes. She has had a few days of no nap where she resists (even in the car in middle of the day she can stay away for an hour whilst we drive). She goes down at about 7 if no nap and wakes around 6/6:30 which means 12-13 hours awake! Seems a lot! She isn't losing her shit until about 6pm. Anyone else dropped this last nap this early?

Yep totally normal. My son dropped his not long after he turned 2, he's now about to turn 3 and now only rarely naps if he's had a particularly early start/bad nights sleep or ill. But early bed times are good too! We pushed bedtime forward to 6:30pm once he dropped the nap and it worked brilliantly.

Sounds like a normal age to drop naps to me. One of mine dropped naps by 2, the other just past 2.

I know some kids nap until 3 but it’s really not unusual to drop the last nap at 2

Mine is 2.5. Naps on very rare days now over the last 4-6 months. Normally they are awake for 6/6.30am. On the days of no nap, bedtime routine including bath time normally begins at 5.15/30pm and they are asleep for no later than 6.30pm. I think it’s normal as they want to stay awake and play.

Yup before 2 here, it was a hard transition but they do go to bed earlier.Problem for us was that DD didn’t sleep through until after 4years (I mean multiple wake ups). The days are hard but I would recommend putting her to bed a bit earlier say 6pm for the moment because she’ll be tired. DD has never slept 12 hours so when she dropped the nap she was still doing 11 hours but just in one go. It’s a brain development thing, can’t be helped.

Yes my oldest dropped her daytime nap occasionally at 18 months and by 2 had no daytime nap at all.

Luckily her younger brother loved his napped and didn't drop it until he went to school at 4.

I think most British babies stop napping around that age, because a lot also go to bed around 6.30pm?

Where I am (central Europe) they are expected to go on having a nap until the end of nursery school, age 5 or 6 (they also start school later here). But bedtime is around 8.30 or 9pm. I found with mine that they dropped it naturally sometime around their 3rd birthdays, but they would still happily take one of the opportunity arose.

Don't think it's massively early my eldest dropped napping at 13 months!

I could write your exact op so I'm following for advice

Currently, every time I take him to nursery he falls asleep! So we've taken a few days off to try and fix his routine and today he didn't nap at all, stayed awake in 3 car journeys, had loads of chances but didn't nap. Started melting down around 6:30 and usually won't go to sleep until 9;45 (or whenever it gets dark outside) if he's had a nap but didn't today so fell asleep at 7:45. He woke up 20 mins ago but settled back down quickly
