I'm looking for some advice we are taking our just turned one and very nearly 3 year old on holiday soon. How do you manage sleeping arrangements ? We have a one bed apartment so was thinking of letting 3 year old have the bed (she has a double at home) And 1 year old in the travel cot. We will then be able to put them to bed and DH and I could sleep on the sofa beds. Has anyone else done this? They do not share at home so this will be the first time. Any other tips holidaying with a 1 and 3 year old greatly appreciated :-)

TIA

Taking a holiday with young children can be both exciting and challenging! Here are some tips for managing sleeping arrangements and making your trip enjoyable:
Bed Sharing: Letting your 3-year-old have the bed while the 1-year-old sleeps in the travel cot sounds like a practical solution. Since your 3-year-old is used to a double bed at home, this arrangement might help maintain some familiarity. Just ensure the bed is safe for your little one.
Sofa Beds: Using sofa beds for you and your partner is a good idea. It allows you to stay close to the kids and attend to their needs during the night. Make sure the sofa beds are comfortable and provide enough space for both of you.
Transitioning: Since your children don’t share a room at home, this might be an adjustment for them. To ease the transition:
Bedtime Routine: Stick to your usual bedtime routine as much as possible. Familiarity can help them feel secure.
Comfort Items: Bring their favorite stuffed animals, blankets, or pillows. Having these familiar items can provide comfort in a new environment.
Night Lights: Consider using a night light to create a soothing atmosphere. It can help reduce anxiety, especially for the 3-year-old.
Quiet Time: If the kids are sharing a room, establish quiet time before bedtime. Read stories, sing lullabies, or play calming music. This signals that it’s time to wind down.
Pack Essentials:
Travel Cot: Ensure the travel cot is sturdy and safe. Test it out before your trip to make sure your 1-year-old is comfortable.
Extra Bedding: Bring extra sheets, blankets, and pillowcases. Accidents happen, and having backups is essential.
White Noise Machine: If your kids are light sleepers, a white noise machine can drown out unfamiliar sounds and help them sleep better.
Daytime Activities:
Plan Ahead: Research child-friendly activities and attractions at your destination. Parks, playgrounds, and family-friendly museums are great options.
Snacks and Water: Keep snacks and water handy during outings. Hungry or thirsty kids can get cranky!
Safety First:
Childproofing: Check the apartment for potential hazards. Cover electrical outlets, secure furniture, and remove any small objects that could be choking hazards.
Emergency Numbers: Have emergency numbers (local hospitals, police) readily available.
