for an 8 month old??

opinions please

if we put lo to bed earlier he would most likely wake up a 5 rather than 6 which means he gets a better day out of it in the long run...

but is it too late?

no. Some los need a bit less sleep than others. Obviously, 7 would mean you got more of an evening, but 8 is pretty good.

BetteNoir · 03/04/2008 12:21

Do whatever works for you and your family.

If he is your only child, just enjoy him, and the fact that you don't have to juggle bedtimes for several different little people.

mishymoo · 03/04/2008 12:23

My DS fell into his routine quite early on and 8pm has always been his bedtime. He is 2.9.

gingerninja · 03/04/2008 12:23

No if it works for you and him it's fine. My DD only ever sleeps 10 hours at night (not necessarily straight through) and I've tried every combination but she has happily settled for about 7.30 as bed time. I wouldn't be too ruled by the clock if you're all happy and he's getting enough sleep.

S1ur · 03/04/2008 12:24

sounds fine to me. ( this isn't specified in the rule book y'know.) I think you can relax

lizziemun · 03/04/2008 12:26

If it works for you then it is ok.

All children are different.

dd1 fell into a 7pm bedtime (still the same at 4yrs)

dd2 falls asleep at 6 - 6.30pm which works for her.

castille · 03/04/2008 12:30

Absolutely not. None of my 3 have ever gone to bed before 8. We have never wanted to be woken at the crack of dawn

BITCAT · 03/04/2008 12:31

No i think its fine, i wish mine would have gone to bed that early at 8mths.
Whatever works for you, i mean its not like they have to go to school or owt is it! Aslong as you get good nights sleep and baby too, i dont see a problem.

PerkinWarbeck · 03/04/2008 12:33

I think it sounds great.

we did try an 8pm bedtime here, after DD started sleeping 7pm-6am.

Sadly it made not one jot of difference to DD's wake up time, so we're back to 7pm now.

No. Not too late. My dcs have always gone to bed at 8pm, since babies. Because DH would never have seen them if they went earlier. The reward is 7.30am wakeup time, even now at age 7 yrs and 4 yrs.

Me and DH are just not early morning people .

tiredandgrumpy · 04/04/2008 20:12

8pm sounds fine. Plus, by the time the clocks go back, he may be sleeping longer, which would mean that he'd be asleep at 7 which is presumably more the sort of time you were expecting to set.

luvaduck · 05/04/2008 01:23

yup agree mine sleeps 10pm-10am (not straight through mind you) at 7 months
didn't mean to start off this way - but it kinda happened after a family illness and now its habit
HOWEVER it suits us just fine - it means i'm not going bonkers when dh gets home after 12 hours alone with ds, we have a lovely evening playing with him, and have a lie in. won't work when i go back to work - but then will bring forward slowly.
each to their own, do what is right for you
(although i always feel really embarrassed telling other mums about his sleep...)
