46 female no identifiable menopause symptoms as such except waking up frequently in the night....every 2/3 hours last night!

I end up eating, overthinking and reading MN to try and get back off! Anyone else, any tips to retrain sleep patterns? I'm knackered!

I exercise regularly and try to eat ok.

If you're eating when you wake up are you not eating enough in the evening? Balanced meal, no spikes in blood sugar?
Avoid caffeine for 8 hours before bed, stay off screens when you wake. Read a book or listen to podcast. Sleep stories by Headspace was recommended to me.

I've woken up every 2 hours for 30 years now- it's ruddy awful. I sympathise.

I've not slept well since the menopause but find vitamin D supplements have helped a bit (I take 4000iu per day). I suffer from periodic night terrors and they seem to be worse if I forget for a few days. I've also heard that magnesium deficiency affects sleep quality although I tried that a few years ago with no success, although in hindsight the quality could have been better. I'm just about to order better quality magnesium along with some ashwaganda. According to ds that has significantly helped his anxiety, which apparently can be the cause of night terrors. Hope you manage to find a solution, you have my sympathy.

If you are going for magnesium (which I take because I think it helps slightly) make sure you get magnesium glycinate not the usual magnesium you buy in shops/chemists.

The bottles of 'magnesium' in shops is generally magnesium citrate, and a high dose of it will give you diarrhoea. I get 1000mg of the magnesium glycinate off Amazon usually.

CBD oil (indica) before bed. When you wake up don't eat or look at your phone. Read if you must, but try just resting and doing something dull like the A-Z of fruit & veg, boy's names, confectionery etc

I'm in a very similar boat OP. I have purchased Magnesium Glycinate and Ashwagandha. Only been on them for a week or so but my sleep has improved.

I've been waking up 2 or 3 times a night and I'm knackered. Fully stress related. But tiredness makes the stress worse... vicious cycle. Just ordered some Magnesium Glycinate from amazon. Fingers crossed!!!!

DH has long term kidney issues and gets up several times each night. The girls moved out somectime ago so we have room and he sleeps in a seperate bedroom so he doesn't disturb me getting up and back to bed. We still have visiting rites to each other so it's not a problem. It is a nuisance though as he never gets a proper night sleep and does tend to drop off every now and then.
