Hi my 12 week old son is using the sleeping bags to sleep in but im really unsure as to wether im happy with the recomendations they give as to which tog and what to where under for what temp?
His room is unfortunatly quite warm due to pipes that run through it, because of this he should only be in a 1 tog bag with just a shortsleeve body suit on.
I would be very cold sleeping like that so how will he be ok???

Does everyone follow the guidlines or go off there own instinct???

I go by my lo as well as the guidance as some babies like to be warmer than others. How hot is the room? At the moment I know ds's room can drop to 15 degrees in the night so I use a bodysuit, sleepsuit and a 2.5tog bag. In the summer it can get to 24/25 degrees and then I would use a short sleeved bodysuit and a 1 tog bag. If you are worried about cold arms then use a long sleeved bodysuit. Go by the coldest the room gets to as if it starts of warm but then gets cold then you need to allow for that when getting them ready for bed.

I did follow the advise. DD had a very warm room and so she never really needed more than a 1 tog bag, and just had a vest under it. She was fine. In colder wearher she wore a long sleeved vest. I never added a sleep suit as well, nor a blanket.

It is better for a baby to be cold than hot. Too hot can be dangerous for a baby.

Babies don't feel the temperatures like we do - they can't control their body heat in the same way.

Now, I never allowed him to sleep without a babygro in winter (so babygro and 2.5 all the way to summer when we got the 6m bag on 1 tog.

Having said that, although I followed the guidelines lightly... now have a child that roasts in the slightest warmer circumstances... perhaps we thought him to sleep as a skimo...

Mine is in a 2.5 all year round and has been since he was 6 weeks. In the summer he wears just a vest inside it. In the middle of winter he wears a long sleeved vest and pyjamas. Our house is very cold though, so overheating isn't a problem, lol!

It goes down to 12 here. [freezing emoticon]

I have gone on my instinct - and personal temperature (she is still in with us) with dd3. I've always used a bag and one or two blankets depending on weather - with her wearing just a sleepsuit, not a vest as well. BUT - we don't have central heating and so the room is a lot cooler than the typical. I'll need to rethink if we're able to move soon - but she's nearly a year old so it's not so much of an issue. I would use long sleeve suits in your place - I wouldn't like lying there with bare cold arms!!

The first sleeping bag i had didnt have a tog on it (as i live in germany and was given it in hospital) and its alot thicker than the 2.5 tog grobag ones.
But as i didnt know what it was when i starting using it, he was sleeping in a room that was 21 degrees most of the time, with a bodysuit, baby grow and the sleeping bag.

Now having visited the uk i have purchased the grobag ones as he has outgrown the other one.

His room is 22 degrees tonight but it doesnt feel that warm in there.
I dont want him to overheat but then he is used to be wrapped up warmer!!!!!!!!!

If it's cold out I put Daisy in a long sleeve vest and pjs and 2.5 tog sleeping bag. I don't even think about it. She's never too hot. Now it's getting warmer i'll switch to a short sleeve vest. When it's really warm I'll use a 1 tog bag. Generally they don't get too hot in a sleeping bag. I shouldn't worry about it. It took me a while of worrying but now I just use my instincts. I find it so much easier than messing about with blankets.

I use my insticts, I have my dd in 2.5 tog bag, vest and babygro tonight, last week when it was colder i put a blanket over her aswell, I do check her temp by putting my fingers on her chest every now and again and she normall feels cool when I go by the guidlines to the letter.
