Too young for move to 'big bed'?

DD will be 19 months when no. 2 is born. Will I be able to move her out of the cot before then, or do we need to buy a second cot?

mine all moved between 16 and 18 months. Agree with the bedguard.

Fantastic. She's 11 months now, and will be 19 months when no. 2 arrives, so when would you advise moving her? 16 months??

My two dds were out of their cot by the age of 14/15 months. I also made sure I had a bedguard and that the stairgate was fitted firmly at the top of the stairs so I could relax at night. We bought them a proper size single bed as couldn't see the point in buying a child's bed (waste of money just for a few years. I remember them now with their new duvet covers (dd1 had her tweenies one and dd2 had her fimbles one - awwwwww!) and they looked so lost and tiny in their great big beds. They actually slept better once moved into a bed than they did in the cot. {grin}

14 months! Wouldnt have thought of trying that early!

I guess we'd better move house asap - at the mo we only have one bedroom and no room for an extra bed!

It was early but they were abosutely fine.

my daughter was in a bed by 15 mths and slept better as had been one of those thats constantly on the move in her sleep and kept bashing herself on the side of the cot and waking up!! but i would move her a few months before your next one is born otherwise they will be jealous of the new baby taking their bed away from them...

My neighbor's son was in a bed by 12 months! A real full sized bed too (with a guard rail). So it can be done.

Personally I have just moved my 33 month old into a toddler bed this past weekend, but I don't have the pressure of someone else needing the cot. (And another neighbor has twin boys who are almost 4 who are still in cots!)

both of my 2 boys were out of a cot at about 18 and 20 months - they started to climb out so it was a case of necessity

We had 19 month gap 1st time too (got 3 ds's now - age gaps 19 months then 21 months). We had ds2 in the moses basket for a while but moved ds1 to his bed at around 21-22 months. Had a couple of nights of him getting out of bed but we put a stairgate on his door and after a few nights he just went to sleep in the bed fine.

No problems! Don't waste your money on another cot!

Moved my dd at 19 months cos we weere going on holiday and could provide us with a cot so she had to sleep in a bed. She has a little bed from argos so she can easily get in and out - same size as the cot was, with a bed guard. howvere did keep getting up and coming downstairs to see us. so she has a stair gate by her door. she's been fine. they reakon between 18months and 24 months is a good time in parenting mags!

We put dd in a toddler bed. But sure you can put them in afull size bed, just make sure it's low for two reasons - once potty trained you'll want them to be able to get in and out of the bed to use the loo, reason number 2 it'll hurt less when they fall out. Which they do to start off with as they are used to being surrounded by bars, and not able to fall. After two or three bumps they stop - that's why ir's a good idea to get bed gaurd or rail. These can be bought seperately, or with the bed and removed later when they are bigger.
