Why is my 5.5 month old feeding all night?

I know that it's perfectly normal for babies this age to feed at night but my ds genuinely seems to be getting all of his calories at night. He's awake all night feeding and his nappy is soaked come morning, then in the day he just plays up when he's on the boob. Faffs for 5 minutes coming off and on and then starts blowing raspberry's and just isn't interested. Anyone else experienced this? Is it just a phase or do I need to guide him into feeding more in the day? I'm so tired from being up every hour 😫

Hey! Yeah that sounds pretty normal for a 5 month old! Frustrating but normal! My DD went through the ‘4 month fussies’ and it lasted a while. Have a read of this article from La Leche - https://laleche.org.uk/what-happens-at-four-months/#:~:text=Then%20around%20four%20months%20(or,in%20your%20baby%20right%20now.

Basically they get a bit fussy around 4-6 months. It does settle down. My DD used to feed to sleep in the day before naps brilliantly then 4 months hit and she just started to mess about on the boob like yours and stopped feeding as much in the day. So had to have her calories at night!!

I have co slept since birth and found this the easiest way for everyone to get some rest. Might not be what you want to do but it does mean you can snooze while your baby feeds if you can side lie and feed?(obviously look at safe co sleeping guidelines before doing this - Lullaby trust).

If you can’t co sleep - id get as much help as possible during the day. Anyone around you can take the LO for an hour or two to allow you some rest?

Its a phase and does pass - good luck!!

What happens at four months? - La Leche League GB

After the first three months, many mothers start to settle into a bit of a rhythm with their baby and begin to feel like life has become a bit more predictable. Then around four months (or anywhere between three and six months), babies seem to change a...
