10 week baby - are we sleeping too much?

Hi,

I'm a FTM with a lovely 10 week old girl. She has taken after her mum and loves to sleep. I know it feels wrong to complain but I want to check is this normal? Or if I let her, can this have a negative effect on her?

We have the huckleberry app to keep a track of her routine. In general she will go to sleep between 7-9pm. Most commonly just before 9pm and sleep in her bedside crib until between 3-5am when she'll wake and fuss so I'll bring her into our bed to feed her and safely co-sleep. From 3/5am - 9/10am we'll happily sleep and if she stirs I feed her and we happily snooze.

I love my sleep so I absolutely love this part of our day. I know she is safe, comfortable and fed - plus I get my sleep and cuddles too.

But a part of me is wondering is there anything wrong or bad about sleeping this much? For the baby I mean? I am worried I've missed something and this is not good for her.

In regard to the co-sleeping, it was something I was very skeptical of but I put a lot of research into how to be as safe as possible and make sure to follow the NCT guidelines every time.

Just enjoy it while it lasts OP 😁. My DD slept right through from about 8 weeks, and then the 4 month sleep regression hit me like a bus!

My son was the same: he’s 16 now and still loves his bed 😁. I had to set an alarm to feed him when he was a newborn otherwise he’d just sleep.

as long as she’s not jaundiced, dehydrated or not taking in enough food, it should be fine but check with HV if you’re concerned

DS2 was, apparently, allergic to sleep and is still a night owl and early bird. He stalks the halls like Mrs Danvers.

I remember going for my six week check and saying “i think this one is broken” The midwife very kindly reminded me that sleeping right through was fortunate with the first one.

I had a 15mth gap thinking #2 would be just like #1 😂

Enjoy your newborn cuddles and snuggles. They grow up fast 🥰

Oh this is reassuring thank you.

HV and doctors say she is putting on weight great so we can wait for her to alert us for good. So we are very lucky.

Ah that’s great; putting on weight and wet nappies means you don’t need to worry 😊

Mine was a 12 hour sleeper.
Slept thru the night at a very early age, and had 2 hour naps thru the day.

Still a 12 hour sleeper when she started school.

Make the most of it, it can change any day.

Thank you! Yes I hear sleep regression can be tricky. I will try and sleep as much as as I can now in case she changes!

Sounds normal! My LO has had a similar routine (in her next to me crib but similar timings at the same age)

She’s thriving and at 14 weeks will now regularly sleep 8 hour stretches. All her health checks have been great and I too love the lie ins! (Often have to gently wake her to get to baby classes on time).

Dreading the 4 month regression… 😬

All 3 of mine slept 10pm to 7am from 8 or 9 weeks with decent naps through the day. From 13/14 years they barely slept a wink! 🤣

Oh that's so funny how different kids can be! It was a toss up between what I'm like (could sleep for England) or my partner (light sleeper and wakes up on the dot of 7am naturally) suffice to say I'm pleased DD has taken after me! 🙏

When I had my first DD, my DH would give her the last feed at about 1pm, he's a night owl and then I would do the next feed at about 7am. DD and me would then sleep until about 12pm. It was bliss. Enjoy it op.

First baby slept through at 6 days old, second didn't really sleep much at all for about 18 months.
