Because I don't know of any IRL!
Bedhared from birth with all three of mine and no regrets.
Currently in a king we have...myself (43), husband (48) and daughter (soon to be 4). I also have two teenage sons but they definitely don't bedshare with us!! 😂
Yes we are very happily married and plan to share for as long as she wants to.
Just wanted to check I'm not the only one out there? ❤️

I'm in with my 7 year old DS and my wife is in with the 3 year old DS! Maybe one day my wife and I will get back together!

Neighbours/friends of ours had all four of them in a giant bed in one room until the youngest was 6... You aren't alone!

Ubugly · 01/04/2024 00:36

Never get this, adults want to sleep together but kids are expected to sleep alone?

pickytube · 01/04/2024 00:36

Plenty of people do (maybe some don't admit) and certainly very common in many cultures. I would say enjoy it.

LorlieS · 01/04/2024 00:37

@WildBear That's fab! Do you also get "Your marriage must be a mess" comments? What do you say in reply?

And yes have always had a co sleeper

Jenasaurus · 01/04/2024 00:41

I did this with all 3 DC. they are now all adults and secure and happy. To be honest it was a laziness thing with me. I knew if I let them bed share we would all get some sleep x

I suppose it's not something which comes up in conversation much. Our parents haven't voiced an opinion but I'd assume my usually outspoken dad doesn't agree with it. I have one friend that completely disagrees and thinks we're stifling their independence but I think a lot has changed since she was rearing children (her 3 are all grown up at this stage). I wrote a long email to her to point out all the studies saying how beneficial co-sleeping is but never sent it - I don't really care for her opinion on the subject and I doubt she'd change her stance anyway so it's probably still in my drafts! It still disappoints me know how she is against what we do, I thought she'd be more like someone who would have said, do whatever works for your family, but there you go.

Youngest co-slept from birth then switched to sleeping in with me when my wife was pregnant with our second and her supply dried up. He's been happily with me ever since and loves being hugged to sleep, then I remove myself for a couple of hours of alone time downstairs :-)

GodspeedJune · 01/04/2024 00:44

My toddler is snuggled up next to me now. I love falling asleep and waking up next to her. When people ask about how she sleeps I tell them - hopefully it’ll be less looked down upon the more it’s normalised.

bossybloss · 01/04/2024 00:46

We all have separate beds; me, oh and DD Bliss !!

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 01/04/2024 00:50

Does it count that my ddog sleeps in my bed?
I do treat her like DC since mine has grown up and moved out.
Superking bed, ddog is laying longways across the bed and I'm laying on the edge, if I try to scoot over ddog kicks me so I'll move.

TheChosenTwo · 01/04/2024 00:55

I thought this was about sharing with partners 😂
We coslept but only for a short period of time when they were small, as soon as they started being disturbed by us they were out. Different ages for each but all of them by 6 months.
I hated sharing with them and like my own sleeping space, hate touching when I’m trying to sleep and couldn’t wait to get them out again! Also prefer not to bedshare with dh tbh, happily retreat to the spare room when he snores (like tonight).
Not sure it ever really came up as a discussion with anyone about cosleeping.
sil ended up with their son in their bed until he was 8 and even after that he would drift in in the middle of the night. Wouldn’t be for me but they were all happy with their arrangement.
What happens in your bed is really no one else’s business!

Thetraitor · 01/04/2024 00:58

Co sleeper here. currently lying next to 2 year old. Not purposefully but just happened this time.

Wossupdoc · 09/04/2024 04:24

Fanatic here. Why are women sold this cruel notion that if the baby will only contact nap (like almost all mammals), they must sit up awake for hours and be exhausted (and risk falling asleep and dropping the baby).

It SAFER to bedshare if breastfeeding. I find it very sad that so many can't enjoy the baby years because they exhausted from getting up and down.

Starshine08 · 09/04/2024 05:06

Oohh this is interesting, as we currently bed share. Could never admit it IRL. Both kids have own rooms, however my son prefers to sleep with his dad, and daughter with me, we have the space so it's ok, no big drama, frankly we all need the sleep. Just out of interest at what age did teenagers stop sleeping with you? Did they just gradually grow out of it?

Piemam · 09/04/2024 05:16

Yes! No plans to change. Me, partner and 4yo. Any advice comes my way, I just bat it off. @GodspeedJune put it so succinctly. Best sleep for a former sleepless person too.

IHateLegDay · 09/04/2024 05:18

We co-slept when they were babies but both kids have their own beds now. Youngest (4.5yrs) will often wake up in the middle of the night and climb in with us though. Currently typing this with her breathing down my ear 😂

username28474 · 09/04/2024 06:41

Another co-sleeper here! It's very common in other countries/cultures for example Indian and I believe Japan has the concept of a family bed.

We have two DC and fortunately have a big enough master bed room for two double beds so all effectively sleep together. My oldest age 6 has just recently said she wants her own bed. So we are currently in the process of doing up her room. This is great as it was completely her choice and I feel she now feels secure enough to sleep alone knowing she can still join us if she wants.

2mummies1baby · 09/04/2024 06:56

My 16 month old starts off in her own bed each night, but always ends up in with me! Last night it was at 10pm. I would much prefer she didn't, but it's what gets us all the most sleep.

The big downside is that, despite being tiny, she takes up so much space that there's not enough room for my wife in there too, so we now sleep separately.

DustyLee123 · 09/04/2024 06:58

I co slept with my mum when DF left, when I was 5, slept with her until I went to high school. So not strange to me.
