Another sleep regression question

I'm a new mum and have been reading quite a bit on the big sleep regression that occurs around 4 months
What I'm not clear on and hope people who have been through it can answer - does this regression come to an end by itself or do we need to guide baby through this to sleep better?
I'm pretty scared as I have a very clingy baby who cannot sleep without contact and most of the time is breastfed to sleep.
Lots of conflicting information so interested to hear others opinions

We just stuck to normal routine - fed on demand as normal, usual bedtime (had been sleeping through before regression) and getting up time and she emerged out the other side after three weeks and then would sleep 11-12 hours.
She'd nap in the sling or pushchair at that age but night sleep was in the crib.
It was hard sticking to the usual getting up etc time after being up multiple times in the night but it did seem to help with re-establishing routine and the difference between night and day.

I was in exactly your position in those early months, reading everything and getting so anxious. All babies are different and we tend to see the worst of everything online.

As PP says, if it happens, just follow your normal routine and things will get back to normal soon enough. Don’t assume the regression is inevitable though. After a really rough start, my DC started sleeping through at 4m and hasn’t looked back, the only bad nights we get are due to illness / teething and they are 15m now.

We didn’t change anything. All babies are different. DS slept badly till he turned three months and then settled a bit more so I don’t think he ever had the dreaded regression. It just feels like it matters a lot as there is so little you can feel you have control over at that age.

My DD didn’t do a clear 4 month sleep
regression. Her sleep has never been great and I just have good (ish) spurts and really not great spurts!
I know how you feel reading everything online and building it up in your head that it will be something terrible but like other posters have suggested just stick to your routine and support your baby through any tricky patches!
Every baby is different and baby sleep isn’t linear. You’ll have good nights and then not great nights depending on all sorts you LO is going through.
Good luck x

Mine started sleeping through reliably from four or five months, they didn't regress at all at this age. Or thereafter. Didn't even know it was a thing.

It’s really hard to navigate everything on the web about the regression. Both my daughters did go through it and everything I read said don’t take on habits you don’t want to keep but I found it impossible. So in wakeups during regression I just fed (waking 2hrly) and put back in cot. For my eldest daughter at 5 months she was back to normal however my second daughter at 5.5 months I felt had now almost got used to this new routine and so I ended up doing a bit more sleep training (albeit gently as she was/is young)
so it’s a tough one but ultimately if you can stick to your routine that’s great but if you’re exhausted sometimes you know a breastfeed will be quick and get them back to sleep. Then if that becomes an unsustainable habit you can address it later! I was lucky in that naps were unaffected just night sleep was.
