Sleep training naps advice

Hi all I have a 5.5 month old who has been sleeping really poorly and it got to a point where in the tiredness in the night I nearly dropped her. So it’s meant I have taken some action which has been successful at night. I don’t mind night wakeups but my issue with my daughter is that the wakeups were long and she wouldn’t settle back in cot. We would end up co sleeping but she never seemed settled or in a. Deep sleep.

so I have been working on her falling asleep independently in the cot at night. So I feed and cuddle pop her down and say good night. Then if she cries after 3 minutes I go to her and shush her placing hand on chest but never removing from cot. We’ve done it for 2 days and been pretty good thankfully no big tears and falling asleep in 26 mins day 1 and 17 day 2. She actually slept for a stretch and went back in her cot after wakeups easily.

my question is around naps- everything I’ve read says to also do the same thing at nap time. At night I have all the time in the world for her to fall asleep but with naps at what point do you intervene to help them sleep if they aren’t asleep yet? Today after 25 mins she was still awake not crying but just looking at her hands l. I went to her picked her up and she fell asleep instantly but then it was hard to transfer her ( the main reason I’ve looked into sleep training). Did i do something wrong? Should you just wait until they fall asleep?
it’s hard for me as I also have a toddler I don’t have the luxury of just waiting around! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
