Why is my baby wanting to sleep so much?

Hi, my baby boy was born 2 months early and is now 5 months old (3 months corrected age).

His wake windows are roughly 1.5 hours still and his routine is similar every day.. Wake, feed and within 1.5 hours of waking he's getting cranky and yawning and kicking back to lie down and sleep.

Recently, I've found after his feed he's not even wanting to sit or play, he kicks back and tries to cuddle in. Yawning and rubbing his eyes and then ends up going for another nap.

I'm wondering if he's maybe going through a wee growth spurt but this has been happening for about a week now? He goes to sleep after a feed around 8.30/9pm at night, wakes up usually around 2am for a feed then back to sleep and that's him until around 8.30/9am. Sometimes after this feed hes away back to sleep again.

I know how lucky we are to have him sleep so well as it has only been the past few months he's slept like this. Up until that point he was up all night most nights or waking every 2/3 hours for a feed.

He was exclusively breastfed up until January and now has formula in a bottle at bed time and night feeds.

Anyone experienced similar?

He may be 3 months corrected, but is still a newborn as they develop slower out than in!
Mum and grandmum to 32 weekers

Thanks! It's really confusing with all the corrected ages as some things go by birth date rather than due date, can't keep up 😂

He goes through spells of being really alert and playing and babbling then all of a sudden will crash. He's trying so hard but eventually becomes really overtired.

I had twins born at 34 weeks and they were similar at your sons age. Make the most of it as their energy levels soon kick in!

Very normal for a 3 month old.

My baby is 7 months and wasn't premature but she sleeps a lot. Sometimes she will sleep from 5pm - 7am next day! She also naps in the morning and after lunch.
She just seems to be a sleepy baby
When she was born they wouldn't let us home from hospital next day as she was so sleepy she wasn't feeding enough. Eventually she started to come round a bit but I realised then that she is just a sleepy/contented baby . I don't think it's a bad thing but maybe mention it to your health visitor next time they're round.

Sorry meant to say once baby is putting on weight & meeting milestones I don't think you need to worry 🥰

That sounds normal, OP.
One of mine did this.
It's great when they sleep so well.

Thanks everyone! Will mention to HV next time she's in but was just a bit worried maybe he was missing out on more time of interaction but miraculously today he seems to be awake for 2+hours at a time and loads of energy 😂 it's ever changing!

Just back with a wee update - health visitor jokingly made a remark to my baby "oh is that you telling mummy you need more stimulating and that you're bored?" I was in shock 😂

Omg that's a bit cheeky but she probably didn't mean any harm by it 😅 Although I feel that my first was always bored because you don't have all day to spend with them , you also need to get things done! The others always had a sibling to entertain them 😊
