Settling in cot - contact sleeper!

Hi all, looking for some advice. My daughter is almost 8 months and has NEVER slept a night in her own bed, not only that, she will only sleep on top of me or my husband. We have tried over the months to put her down, first in her next to me (which she despised) and now we have a full sized cot side card to the bed so I can roll her into it.

She will sleep a maximum of 1.5 hours (rare) and then wake crying and only calm when picked up, if I then put her down again when asleep the cycle continues. I’ve avoided any kind of sleep training as I hate to see her cry but just recently we’ve been able to move from all contact naps to naps in the car and pram, she’ll cry a tiny bit and then sleep. I need to replicate this for the cot as her waking not knowing where she is is the issue (I think!)

She tosses and turns lots in the night so even when she’s asleep on me I spend the time awake making sure she doesn’t fall.

My husband helps lots and when we can we do shifts but he works unsocial hours and it’s taking it’s toll.

But she is a extremely mobile, sitting, crawling, pulling herself up - so how do I get her to calm in the cot?

I would like to support her to sleep still, but don’t know how!

I’m at the end of my rope, and haven't had more than 2 hours consecutive sleep since she was born - help! Not only this but me and my husband have zero time alone and I'm losing myself 🥲

Hi!!
I have found drowsy but awake a good option. The transfer is too hard when they're fast asleep!! I also cover the mattress with the vest I've had on all day so it smells of me in the cot (rightly or wrongly) we also have a Ewan sheep deluxe which helps soothe him!

It can still go wrong at times but these things have helped.
