ds has early evening bath and feed and then has approx 10-10-30pm dream feed and sleeps till 2-3am, however once that feed done he appears to go to sleep but will grunt (which i know is'normal') and groan as if in pain through until next feed. However he appears to be asleep, and doesn't actually cry until awakens sometime between 7am and 8am when hungry? we try winding but to no avail, dont think its wind.
Any ideas gratefully received

I think they just do this. Small babies are SO NOISY! There is no solution I know of short of moving him into his own room. We moved our ds earlier than planned, at approx 5 months, because I just couldn't take it anymore!

crackpotdog · 25/03/2008 09:11

but ds is only just over 8wks, loathed to move him. just worrried also incase something wrong

yeah I know, that's the situation we were in, we had to just put up with it, I don't think there's anything else you can do. They do outgrow it..

any fresh ideas 2nite?

yes sorry, ds2 did this too and just slowly grew out of it

iirc it was the first 2 or 3 months that he just didn't really settle after 4am-ish

Ambi · 25/03/2008 20:50

DD did this about 3 weeks, I only went to her when she cried, she settled herself ok. Moved her to her own room a week later as the grunting was tipping me over the edge. I hope you can resolve it.

fondant4000 · 25/03/2008 20:51

Yep dd2 did this and a friend of mine said her ds2 did it as well

I think it was a building up to a poo, she usually pooed at around 8 am after many hours of grunting!

She did grow out of it at about 3 months - again I think when she got better at pooing.

ConnorTraceptive · 26/03/2008 08:50

DS2 is 3 weeks and is doing exactly the same thing from about 3am onwards, tis driving me mad, coupled with the fact that he is feeding less than every two hours.

BellaBear · 26/03/2008 09:02

My son does this (nearly 10 weeks), we keep trying to wind him, he sounds so uncomfortable. Do you all think we should wait for him to actually cry before going to him?

ConnorTraceptive · 26/03/2008 09:04

I sometimes try to wind, but generally find that the grunting peaks with a massive fart if I leave him alone.

Babyisaac · 26/03/2008 10:26

My DS also does this (11 weeks). Hate to say it, but I've had to resort to earplugs. I don't think it's wind in his case, just vying for my attention. Babies are noisy little things, aren't they?!

crackpotdog · 26/03/2008 16:05

bella, we have it sorted now!! once put down after feed once grunting starts i got up again and tried to wind him but nothing, then left him to it!!
i've worn earplugs since day 1!! very light sleeper. feel bit better after hearing lot of babies do it. doesn't actually cry so hopefully will grow out of it

hearing lots of babies do it makes me feel better as well. think we'll attempt to leave him to it tonight. hard as he sounds so uncomfortable but reassured by these posts. will hope for some farts!

cockles · 26/03/2008 16:19

I had that baby too. Tried everything, nothing made any difference except time. Earplugs for sure. I'm so glad it wasn't just me though!

crackpotdog · 26/03/2008 17:26

bella, let me know how you get on 2nite!!

yes had this too for ages when dd was about that age. was related to farting definitely. i made the mistake of always picking her up even when not crying, seemed to make things worse and wake her when she otherwise wouldn't have woken. she ended up in her own room in our case, i was starting to go mad with lack of sleep!

BellaBear · 27/03/2008 08:31

badly
but was night after jabs

only slept on me

haven#t had much sleep

phraedd · 27/03/2008 09:41

i have a 7 week old that does this....some babies are just noisier than others

evadiopi · 27/03/2008 15:03

my ds is 7 weeks old and does the same thing from 5 am onwards. it is driving me mad. last night tried an experiment. As he seems to be in a very deep sleep for the first half of the night until 1st feed we tried delaying bedtime. A catnap at six then fed and bathed to be in bed by nine, instead of the usual seven. it kinda worked, one fed in the night at half one and another at 6 and the grunting didn't start til half past seven the next morning! by which time i felt capable of getting up
