1 year old humming/singing, rocking back and forth in sleep

DS 16 months, is fast asleep. I got to top of strairs and heard strange noises from his room, that I'd not heard before.

Looked at the monitor immediately, which conveniently is on my phone and can see him rocking back and forth repeatedly, for a minute I thought with the gurgling/humming he was having a fit.

Went in there and he's fast asleep but keeps twitching/convulsing his back every so often then humming/singing.

I'm concerned mainly as he's sleeping a lot at the moment, and not eating. He was sent home from nursery Thursday (now Sunday) and has barely eaten all weekend and has sleep almost double what he usually does.

Anyone had this sleep humming, rocking?

Speak to the Health Visitor or GP for advice to rule anything out

Mine used to rock themselves like that when small, sort of self soothing, but if your DS has been unwell and this is unusual, it would be better to speak to a HCP.

Can you try and film it happening next time? Could just be dreams, could be (but unlikely) to be nighttime seizures.

I would get a drs appointment, with the view that they will probably fob you off, so go in asking for a referral. It’s always better to rule something out with a specialist rather than a general practitioner who won’t have had any proper neurology training.

My brother did this until he was 26 (when he got married and started sharing a bed). Even now he’ll start rocking his head when he’s tired.

If he is unwell that’s probably separate.

ETA I know he did it until he got married because it’s something we’ve laughed about. That he had to retrain himself to be still and quiet. It’s just how he naturally relaxed himself for sleep.
