4 m.o. Moaning and Thrashing All Night

Hey everyone. I was wondering whether anyone could help with the above? Baby is 19 weeks old, and has been thrashing and moaning in his sleep the last few nights and so I've not been able to get many sleep stints much over an hour. Could this be reflux or the 4-month regression? Temperature? I'm EBF and feeding him to sleep, which I know isn't the best practice, but it's worked ok in the past, with only 1-2 wakings per night. Baby does quite a bit of daytime reflux, both spit up and swallowed, but I'm not sure what's normal for this age. He contact-naps during the day and doesn't thrash or moan during these sleeps. He also seems fairly happy and healthy generally.

I've just recently started cutting out dairy to see if this helps, but is there anything else we can do? Also, I'm considering shelling out for a sleep consultant, but is it worth trying to wait this out or using other methods first?

Thanks.

watching thread as my 3 month old is thrashing about at night - usually just second half of the night - his eye are closed but his legs and flapping about in this sleep bag and his squeaking away keeping me awake. I think its a mix of wind (some times he stops for a bit after a big fart!!) or temperature drop just after 3am/4am. but i cant find anything when i try and google it?

Have you tried swaddling? I saw a dr years ago when my twins were tiny and he suggested it. Their startle reflex is massive at this age, they twitch and thrash and wake themselves up. A lovely swaddle can really help

Love to dream swaddle!!
But not if they are an early roller. But to echo .. works wonders for the startle reflex!!

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately we're too late for the swaddle - baby is almost rolling now; I wish we had started with a swaddle from birth as then we probably would have got a lot more sleep in the early days!

@Sailawaygirl Sorry to hear you're suffering too! The last couple of nights have been better for us. What we've done is made sure baby has tummy time before going to bed in order to bring up any reflux, using continuous loud white noise through the night and all the dairy has now left my system (it's also been a bit warmer outside), so if you haven't tried any of the above, it may be worth giving it a shot.

@niblet42
He was very chatty in the early hours of this morning between 3am - 6. I changed nappy, tried giving him a feed, but he wasn't that hungry. a few farts but he settled by 6.30. im not too worried but its quite funny how he can flap his leg about so much!!
We tried a swaddle when he was new born but didn't get on with it.
