How to get baby to nap in cot

Hello,
My 14 week old will only nap on me, in the pram, or in the car. While this is ok most of the time, I have other kids and need to be able to get things done in the day! I vaguely remember with my daughter that I didn't try and get her to nap in the cot until much later, but I have more commitments this time round and need to get him napping independently.
I just tried to put him down in his cot with white noise and closed blinds/curtains. He was drowsy and settled but fought it and by 20 minutes in he was crying and overtired, so I gave up and he's now asleep in my arms 🙄 Any tips?!
Oh and to add, at night he sleeps in my room in the next to me and self settles to sleep 98% of the time. Day naps wont work in there as there's a huge window and I'm reluctant to buy darker blinds for it just for a couple of months so it's really bright in there.

Firstly, get some black out blinds and black out that window.

at 14 weeks we struggled to do anything in the cot. It will get better.

we transitioned to a sleeping bag which helped massively.
clearly just wants to be close to mama.. it’s mad, we held out baby to sleep for MONTHS. It was hard but eventually we got there by doing the day naps together lying down, in the bed. Slowly removing ourselves and then it worked out. It has to be TINY baby steps.
now he sleeps in the cot (which is attached to our bed) and the transitioning away is easier because of the bed attachment.

Or there’s always sleep training 🫠

I have recently started to put my 14 week old down for naps in his cot.
To start with, we just did the first nap of the day in the cot. The first few days I patted him and shushed to help him get to sleep and he only slept for 20 minutes. That gradually built up over a couple of weeks and once he was doing 45 minutes morning nap, I started to do other naps in cot too. He now goes down in the cot for all naps easily without needing me to pat/shush.
We do have a nap time routine which helped- a nappy change, a cuddle then sleep.
