Hi all

my 2 year old is waking numerous times trying to find her dummy. She only has it for sleep but think we need to remove it completely as now causing an issue. I have been planting the seed for dummy fairy but dont think she quite understand. Apart from cold turkey is there another gentle method i could follow? Thanks

We took our 2 year old daughter to Build-a-Bear, let her choose whatever she wanted, had the dummies put inside the bear, and now she cuddles the bear whenever she needs comfort.

She hasn't touched a dummy since, and she was absolutely addicted!!

We told DD that another child (friend of hers) needed it. It became a topic of conversation for a while but she didn't miss it for comfort. She also didn't question why he never had it with him!

I've heard cutting the end off works wonders. Apparently it doesn't give them the same satisfaction so they naturally stop wanting it. Good luck!

Does she only have one dummy in her bed? My daughter had lots! At least 3 in the bed if not more so she could always find one.
I think 2 is a bit young to understand the concept of a dummy fairy. My daughter was over 3 years old before we did that and she full understood at that time. She didn't mind at all when it went, I was expecting her to scream the house down so you might be surprised and she's ok.

I get them off it by doing day time naps first then just go for it generally 2 nights are a challenge at most.

Thanks all hoping if i give it another few weeks i can try the dummy fairy again! Doesnt help she is already taking a while to go down at night at the moment so dont really want this on top of it aswel but it is causing night waking again..suppose there is no good time!

When DS was 2 he was a dummy monster (only for sleeping/naps not bothered in the day) He was still in his cot at 2 so I used to put a halo of dummies (6 or 7) around his head so he could always find one so slept through.
He was still using a dummy at just turned 4 but I figured it was only at night and his teeth were fine so left him to it. Then his newborn baby cousin came to visit complete with dummy in- sound asleep.
DS was outraged and thundered 'what is THAT in his mouth!'
It's his dummy I said- we give them to babies to help them sleep.
DS marched off and collected all his dummies and put them in the bin. That was it! Grin
He slept fine after that - he's in his 20's now. His outrage was bloody hilarious.
Don't stress about it but if you have any family/friends with new babies it might be worth a visit!
