Some are born to co-sleep, some achieve co-sleeping and others have co-sleeping thrust upon them. - which are you?

Just wondering as it was initially thrust upon me but i have now adapted and feel like I have achieved a comfortable routine.

So all you co-sleepers, was it a conscious decision, or did it just happen?

Thrust upon us. Sort of co-sleep or die of exhaustion. I quite like it now (although he starts the night in his own cot!).

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 14:35

thrust

I thought it was weird

dp suggested it
"every time you put him down he says waaaah. So stop putting him down."

louii · 17/03/2008 14:36

Was a decision we made.

FairyMum · 17/03/2008 14:38

Was decided by my little managers

2 weeks ago DS2 decided that he would start waking up in his cot at around 2am and shout until we put him in our bed where it is warm and cosy. He then goes to sleep immediately. We find at that time we just go, 'err ok'.
We don't really want him there. Should i do something about it now?

Kathyis6incheshigh · 17/03/2008 14:41

LOL
I did it for 6 months or so with ds and it was definitely thrust upon me by my tendency to fall asleep during feeds.

Glad it did, because it made it possible to manage longer than I would have ever thought possible without a whole night's sleep.

RedFraggle · 17/03/2008 15:12

Lol Dragonbutter! That is exactly the same as me - but I have now acclimatised and like Iarmcfb I quite like it now!

I don't sleep as well as I do when he is not there, but I sleep a hell of a lot better than I do when he screaming non-stop in his cot... I'm hoping that when he gets to One he might not need me as much as night. (maybe I am conning myself though ) He does generally start the night in his own cot but then joins us at around 11 / 11.30pm for the rest of the night.

We decided to do it, mainly because it was easy to rollover and feed, and I'm very lazy about getting out of lovely warm bed in the night.

But, oes anyone else have this/
Children now 13, 10 and 8.

We still have bedhopping, particularly them in each other's beds.
And as there's an odd number, one gets left out sometimes, and gets a mattress to sleepon in same room.

I remeber saying- "Well, at least we'll have the bed to ourselves whenthey're 12/13.. err, not yet, [hmn]

SixSpotBurnet · 17/03/2008 16:19

Definitely the 3rd.

And I still get a lot of aches and pains in my right hip which I blame on lying on my right side for years and years while co-sleeping/breastfeeding.

Reesie · 22/03/2008 18:35

The third too.... I did it for a year but I'm really glad now as I love it! My lo now sleeps through the night on her own but I can't sleep that well without her there!! I have been known to go and get her in the night and put her in bed with me!!!!!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 22/03/2008 18:37

It seemed natural with DS and then decided to do the same with the DDs.

hercules1 · 22/03/2008 18:39

First child - not a decision, it was suggested by the midwife to help with feeding and then became what we did. Never thought to do anything other than cosleep with dd.
