3 month old in pain at night

My 14 weekolder has always slept quite well for the first half of the night and from his first feed onwards hes up CONSTANTLY.

It started off with him thrashing around and drawing legs up and i put it down to wind as my first baby was the same.

The last few weeks he has been straightening out and turning to one side before crying out but settles back to sleep (most times) instantly when i lift him.

I've spent entire days winding him, colief drops, infacol and the dr has prescribed gaviscon (im pretty sure its not reflux as hes fine during the day plus the reviews of it are awful)

He goes to bed at 7.30, impossible to keep him awake much later and is EBF if that makes any difference.

This happens from 1am onwards and near enough at the exact same time every night, he can be up as much as every half hour and i am exhausted. I thought he would have grown out of this by now!

Any advice or has anyone been through similar? Thanks

It’s a bit early but could it be teething? Have you touched his gums to see if you can feel anything? maybe try some anbesol oil on the gums at bed?
I know you’ve said you had another baby but all babies are different and sleep is very rarely linear in the first few years… could it just be the beginnings of the dreaded 4 months “regression”? Developmental transitions etc.?
If you don’t think it’s colic I would probably stop with the medication as they can cause other difficulties if your baby doesn’t need them. But that’s up to you.
In terms of exhaustion, can you cosleep seen as your EBF and try and snooze with him on the breast if it soothes him?

I did wonder about the sleep regression but sort of discounted that because its been the case since birth! Also never considered teething - might just give that a go tonight!

May be worth considering trying a paediatric osteopath if that's something you could do.

I have actually been looking in to this for a while - is it something you have done?

Yes I did it with my now 12 week old when he was 4 weeks old.
It seemed to help. It's hard to know for sure as obviously so much changes so quickly with babies, but it definitely didn't make anything worse (other than my bank balance! 🙈).

Actually we're having massive sleep issues at the moment so I may give mine a call now I've thought about it.

Hello

No real suggestions, but just to say my daughter was/is the same. She is now 5 months and a bit better but she still screams and thrashes in her sleep in the second half of the night with what I assume to be wind. The only plausible explanation I found for it is Infant Dyschezia which is where they are pushing but can’t relax to let the wind out. This explains why it stopped when I picked her up as she relaxed. However I didn’t find anything to help improve it. It got a bit better at 3 months. I tried Infacol, Gaviscon from the doctor (which just gave her constipation) and an osteopath who said he couldn’t find anything wrong.
Hope you get through this! I am close to weaning time so am hoping this improves it.
