Nights now much better, what's gone wrong during the day?

We've had a bumpy ride with ds's (9mo) night time sleeping - but he has tended to be quite a good daytime sleeper. He usually goes down without much of a fuss and sleeps for an hour or so twice a day.
The last week or so, without much trying on our part, he's gone from multiple night wakings to sleeping from 11pm (when we wake him to give him a bottle) to 5-6am then going back to sleep after a breastfeed for a couple of hours. This is extraordinary - before, he was being fed 3 times a night and being awake for up to an hour after each feed. So, clearly we're pretty pleased.
However, pretty much simultaneously he seems to have abandoned daytime sleeping. Yesterday he slept for 30 mins, the day before for 40 mins in 2 stretches. I have now more or less abandoned his morning sleep - there was too much wailing and we're trying to focus on the post-lunch one but it's a struggle.
I'd clearly rather he slept well at nights, and if he only needs a certain amount of sleep then I can live with short/no daytime sleep, but surely a 9 month old needs more than 30 mins during the day? Would you persist with trying to sort out the daytime sleeps and risk messing up the nights again?

you will find at various stages the sleep patterns will alter and they will gradually sleep more at night and need less during day.just be thankful!!!!!

DS's daytime naps went a bit peculiar when he started to sleep through (at 9mo), took a while to settle down but gradually shifted to one sleep after lunch. Now at 13mo he generally goes for 90 mins and sometimes even more. So I would stick with the one nap, and hopefully it will come right for you soon.
