Baby wakes after 5/10 minutes. Help!

My Dd is 6 months old and I'm working on getting her to fall asleep in her own bed, rather than me having to rock her to sleep (as I mostly have done previously). My problem is that she keeps waking up after just 5/10 minutes! The internet seems to assume that your baby will either wake up when you put them down, or after one sleep cycle of 30-40 minutes, so I feel like I'm alone in experiencing this issue.

She's doing really well and will normally fall asleep in her own bed at night, but I'm still rocking her for most naps and trying to put her down 'drowsy but awake' when I can. This is mostly a naps issue, but does sometimes happen at night too. If I hold her for 10 minutes after she's fallen asleep in my arms & then put her down, she normally stays asleep for at least 1 sleep cycle of around 35 minutes, but if I try to put her down as soon as she's fallen asleep, or if I get her to sleep in her cot, she almost always wakes up again after 5 or so minutes and I have to settle her again (though it is easier the second time). She's definitely asleep, so what gives?

Needs gentle sleep training to encourage her to learn to self-soothe.

She seems to manage between sleep cycles, certainly at night & sometimes during the day too, it's just these 5/10 minute wake ups that she's not managing & if I leave her she just escalates to screaming 🙁

Embrace contact naps.

The internet is full of advice, so good and some shit. You have no way of knowing which is which. (Including this)

I spent most of DD1s first year stressing about perfecting naps, when o should have been cuddling her on the sofa with tea and a box set. I would have got more housework done if she had proper cot naps, but 🤷‍♀️.

DD used to ping awake after 5-10 minutes. She was overtired ( a vicious circle as the 5-10 min naps made it worse) and windy. I’m not sure which one it was that caused the wake ups but does either sound likely for your DD?

DD did the 10 min ping awake thing with contact naps too. The only time she didn’t was if napping in a moving pram or car. Rather hard work so I don’t recommend it.

My youngest used to wake up due to reflux - when she was laid in her crib it would hurt her and wake her. Got some medication from the dr and tilted the next to me crib up (head upwards obviously) and it solved the problem. Not saying that’s necessarily the problem but sometimes it takes a bit of detective work to figure out what’s waking them x

Oh and sometimes warming the cot up helps to keep them asleep cos if they go from mums warm arms to a cold (er) sheet they realise mums done a runner and they wake for you to come back

This this this. I almost lost my mind trying to perfect naps. Just go with the contact naps, babies work this sleep stuff out eventually.
