Baby waking after 5 minutes

My almost 4 week old will normally sleep for at least an hour at night once I have put him down and will sometimes go longer. However, the last 2 nights he is waking up after 5 minutes. He is not crying right away but is making lots of noises, moving a lot and is generally wide awake. He isn't hungry and will fall asleep if held or offered food. Any advice?!

There have been no changes to routine, feeding, room etc

Sounds like a hungry baby. Bf or bottle?

EBF and I don't believe he is hungry as if offered will comfort suck for around a minute before falling asleep again!

Wind?

Has he got a baby sleeping bag? He might be cold.

Wants comfort.

There's going to be a lot of nights ahead in the next two years where you'll drive yourself mad trying to find an explanation but basically if baby isn't hungry or too cold, in a new environment/itchy item of clothing etc, then they're most likely in some kind of discomfort

  • due to a development leap, growth spurt, teething or ill...

and just want their safe place (your arms).

So I'd save yourself all that angst and just cuddle them. Safely co-sleeping has changed my life as a breastfeeding mum of more than one at a time. Tag in and out with your partner if needed, who can wake you for feeds so your supply is protected but you get some solid blocks of sleep if you can't sleep in the day.

Sorry about the formatting there, can you tell I'm typing one handed whilst feeding myself.

Wind, possibly needs a dummy for comfort.

Agree with @Flittingaboutagain - your baby just wants to be held. Completely normal and natural and nothing to worry about. He’s only 4 weeks old and the world is big and scary but you are safe and comfy. It can be tough especially when you need sleep too but you will find a way that works for you and your baby x

Fine to leave him so that you can get on if you need to . Why not keep him in the same room and see if he settles.
