Setting alarm for feeds at 3 months

Had first baby 3 months ago and safe to say we’ve no idea but we are just rolling with it. We’re lucky and he sleeps most of the night most of the time and takes a feed without waking (although starting to see a bit of regression hitting).

I’ve been feeding just before I go to bed and then setting my alarm for 3am to feed. He takes it but it’s usually a very short feed. Should I still be offering a feed in middle of the night or leave to see if he wakes me to feed?

What is his weight?

SH23B · 01/12/2023 00:29

Noooo! If he is sleeping leave him! I was doing this with my first and didn't realise there was no need. If he's sleeping, enjoy it! If he's hungry he'll tell you. And the 4 month sleep regression is just around the corner....

I can’t remember exact weight, but he’s stayed on the 75th centile line since birth.

Yeah I absolutely would not wake him. Enjoy the sleep!

haribosmarties · 01/12/2023 02:55

Unless he's underweight or ill I would never wake a sleeping baby at night. You do not need to do that if he's gaining weight fine. Enjoy your sleep!

MilkChocolateCookie · 01/12/2023 02:57

Leave him to sleep. He doesn't need to be woken to feed at this age.

LovedMyLastNameItHadToGo · 01/12/2023 03:16

Oh wow! Let him sleep! You might find he wakes up about 5ish and has a good feed then sleeps till 8ish (them were the days!).

Mirrormeback · 01/12/2023 03:57

Never wake them up for a feed in the middle of the night

Let them sleep and get a good sleeping routine

WandaWonder · 01/12/2023 04:00

Would you want to be woken to feed, why on earth would you wake a sleeping baby?

sure a medical professionals tells you for your actual baby you have to but if not DON'T!

Aria999 · 01/12/2023 04:19

The only alarm you need to feed is normally baby screaming for it, unless he's Not Gaining Weight.

Plumful · 01/12/2023 04:43

this is madness!

Unicorns41 · 01/12/2023 05:27

Okay, looks like I definitely don’t need to be setting alarms! Thank you all!

I would agree you don’t need to worry about his weight. However what you may find is that if you don’t dream feed at 3am, he naturally sleeps until maybe 4.30-5 and then wakes for a feed and then won’t go back to sleep because it’s too close to morning. Both of mine did this at various stages and it was pretty annoying! The solution was a preemptive feed earlier in the night which then enabled them to sleep until more like 6.30.

so although on paper people might say “oh don’t wake up at 3am enjoy the sleep!” You might find that waiting for him to wake naturally will actually mean you end up with less sleep overall. In which case I think the alarm would still be worth it! But no harm in trying and seeing what happens.

mondaytosunday · 01/12/2023 06:51

I used to do sleepy feed before I went to bed then again but only if baby woke! I'd let him sleep.

LovedMyLastNameItHadToGo · 01/12/2023 12:08

agree with @mondaytosunday just do the 10-11pm feed and then you and them sleep!! Get that good few hours in before the 5am feed then back to sleep til 8. That’s what mine did from 3 months. Although the 5am I had to bring the second baby to bed with me.
