What to dress baby in for bed

Baby is 12 months old. His nursery drops below 15C at night. He has pretty poor circulation and just doesn't produce much body heat.

He's already dressed in vest, socks, sleep suit and 3.5 tog sleeping bag but he's still waking up every 3p minutes absolutely freezing cold.

I can't have the heating on all night it's too expensive. The room is small so I don't think a heater is a good idea.

DS is 7 months and currently goes down in long sleeved vest, long sleeved top, sleep suit and 2.5 tog grobag. He was waking cold around 1 or 2 and it’s better since adding the extra top.

Get a toddler duvet too to go on him over his sleeping bag!

dementedpixie · 11/11/2023 19:58

Could you put a cardigan on him or have a small oil filled radiator in the room to help keep the temperature at a higher level?

I don't agree with this. Sleeping bags aren't supposed to be used with a duvet on top

My kids room goes under 15 too, they are 2 and 3 and go to bed in long sleeve PJs and a long sleeve vest, just got them a 7.5 tog duvet.

dementedpixie · 11/11/2023 20:02

Is it a long sleeved vest under the sleepsuit? I think you get sleepsuits with padded sleeves too

nottaotter · 11/11/2023 20:03

Can you have him in with you? Its only going to get colder.

SpinningTops · 11/11/2023 20:04

Look at the Jojo Maman Bebe 3.5 tog bags if that's not what you've got. They have detachable sleeves and we found the covered sleeves really helped.

We have an oil filled radiator (with its own thermostat) which goes on and off automatically if the temperature drops below a certain temp. Life saver as would be about 12 degrees without it!!!

I’ve had 4 kids and live in a cold farmhouse - all of them have slept with vest, sleep suit, 2.5 tog sleeping bag and toddler duvet when it’s been cold in their rooms. A 12 month old isn’t a baby but they aren’t old enough to just have a duvet so the sleeping bag keeps them from kicking a duvet off altogether. When mine were younger they all had blankets over their sleeping bags!

Bluejellybean23 · 11/11/2023 20:06

(a plug in one that is. We don’t have the normal heating on at night).

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 11/11/2023 20:08

Is it a long sleeved vest?

Do you have some decent curtains in his room, lined/thermal ones? Are you closing them in the afternoon when the temp outside drops? Are there any drafts coming in through the window, if so can you block them? Could you pop a heater in his room before he goes to bed to warm it up, then take it out?

Possibly less than ideal but for the colder months could he be back in your room?

Bouncyball23 · 11/11/2023 20:14

I used to put long sleeved vest and tights on under sleep suit, into sleep bag and thin blanket over.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 11/11/2023 20:15

We have an oil filled heater in our kids rooms. It comes on low every 2 hours for half an hour in a timer switch. It's enough to keep the temp a stable 16/17. Would that work!

Boymummyofone · 11/11/2023 21:01

You can get sleepsuits that are 2.5 tog, they're ideal as they cover the arms as well. Next and Tu Sainsbury's do them and they're reasonably priced. I know Jo Jo mama Bebe do them as well but they're more expensive.
