Are travel cots OK for continuous use?

DD2 (4.5 months) has grown out of her moses basket. I'm wanting to keep her in our room for at least another 6 weeks (both for practical and cot-death prevention reasons) but can't fit her full size cot in the room. As a temporary measure we've put a travel cot (quite a good quality Graco) up for her which just about fits in. However, does anyone know of any safety / health reasons why this may be a problem? I saw somewhere it says they shouldn't be for everyday use, but surely if thy're safe for one night, they're safe for every night? She seems perfectly comfortable BTW.

I don't think the matresses give great supprt to their backs - that is why they are not recommended for long term use.

they are not comfortable at all though, compared to a proper cot. I wouldn't do it.

We have the Graco baby eintein travel cot, which I've found really good, for just this reason.

We bought another mattress for it, so that we can use it for a little longer. Once DS is too big for it, and can roll over onto his front, we'll stick him in his big cot.

DS is in a travel cot for precisely this reason. No problems so far

it's also good because he can't get his legs/arms/head stuck in the bars - he moves around a lot at night. He has been in it full-time for about 3 months now.

thanks for your responses. Will try a few more nights and see if she still seems comfortable.

We used a travel cot all the through until a bed. We did buy a proper mattress though.

most travel cot mattresses have a warning on them about them not soaking up vomit/fluid and it being a potential choking risk. I would buy a proper mattress for it as you may well be using it for month yet. You can get them quite cheap of the internet.

must buy a proper mattress

DS loves it. Sleeps much better in there than he ever did in his crib.

makes a brilliant playpen for later on too.
