When did your toddler drop their nap?

So up until about a week ago my son (22 months) was napping around 2 hours in the day (roughly 2 hours 11am-1pm). He generally goes to bed around 8 and wakes about 6/half 6, sometimes wakes earlier.
Recently he's refusing bed time and his naps have been getting shorter and getting so so difficult to get him to sleep.
Today he's been awake since 630 and just will not nap, he looks shattered but just will not sleep. I've tried twice today.
Is he getting ready to drop his nap?
He does have low sleep needs and I think I need more sleep than him 😴

My daughter began dropping her nap at 23 months. We cut it down to 30 minutes and hung on to it for about 4 months until it went completely, but she stopped napping altogether at nursery when she turned 2.

Both of mine had to be forced to drop their nap the summer before they went to school

Around 3, but he napped later in the day, around 12:30/1pm. I would put him down after lunch. I think he had a couple of times I thought he was going to drop his nap before this but it was just a short phase. I'd persevere if I were you if he seems tired.

My first 4 all dropped their naps by 20-22m. They were all low sleep needs, duracell bunnies and never napped in the car, 4th refused buggy naps too.

Dropping naps for them was fine, they didn't get grumpy, they didn't nod off on the sofa unless burning a temp. I found it exhausting though!

5th is 2yrs and 5m and still needs her nap which is an absolutely lovely revelation to me to have an actual tired child, and whilst I feel like I'm on borrowed time I'm so grateful for every day she does!

My son is 2.5 and has been avoiding his nap for a couple of months now, strangely though he has been sleeping in a lot later than previously, usually wakes up around 8am now and therefore isn't tired enough to have a nap after lunch. I think he's essentially switched the afternoon sleep for a later morning wake up. I still try occasionally and he may still have a quick doze in the car if we are out and the time fits. If he has a busy day he's knackered and ratty come dinner time which is a challenge! But always ready for bed by 7-7.30 and falls asleep straight away. Swings and roundabouts really.

Wow ! Your first 4 sound exactly like my son. He is SO ENERGETIC. This morning we went on a long walk and he pretty much walked the whole way and went to the park. He's never been a great sleeper or needed much sleep and is so full of energy so I can't wait for nap time most days lol.
At the moment I don't get any down time because hes up early, in bed late and hardly napping!

Around 20 months, though he still napped if we were in the car for an hour after a long day with lots of walking.

20 ish months, no naps and still woke every night every 2 hours for another 6 months still wakes up regularly between 05:00 and 05:s0 regardless of what time he goes to bed.

Pipistrellus · 29/10/2023 12:57

He just had about 11 hours overnight after dropping the nap. He napped for longer at childcare but then would not sleep until 9pm on those days so lost that time from his nighttime sleep.

Caspianberg · 29/10/2023 12:58

Yes about 22months regularly. Probably another 4-6 months after that I could 80% of the time get him to nap if I took him for a walk in pram after lunch. Then he would maybe nap 1.30-2.30pm.
Hes now 3.5 years. If he falls asleep in car at all, maybe once every few weeks, then he takes until 10pm or later to sleep.

He has always been an energetic child also, and low sleep needs. A good day now would be 8.30pm-6am overnight

My first two were 12 months. My third was about three.
