Ditching the dummy at 6m

My little one is 5.5m and we're considering ditching the dummy (sick of having to replace it multiple times a night!)...A lot of tips I've read suggest to swap it out for a comforter/muslin but my little one already has a comforter which she uses along with the dummy to help self-settle. I just wondered if anyone has any other suggestions or is the best plan to just go cold turkey? Thanks!

If it's used for comfort with a blanket then taking it away at 6mo seems really cruel. Wait til they're slightly older imo

I’d wait until older. I remember lining several up in the cot and they’d reach up for them when they dropped one.

Yes I would also wait until older. If they are used to it for comfort and self settle with it then taking it away at this age when they can't understand is mean IMO. If she's sleeping well but you need to get up to replace the dummy but she goes straight back to sleep I'd take that as a win. When she's a bit older she'll be able to replace it herself if you use glow in the dark ones and leave multiple in her cot.

Just echoing others with the 'leave it til he's older'.

Thank you all for your replies...I'd read similar threads on here (parents up several times a night replacing a lost dummy) and the majority of replies suggested getting rid of the dummy so it's nice to see a different side on this thread! I in no way want to appear mean or cruel and I think I would be happier to leave it longer rather than disrupt her sleep as so far she's been good on that front! Thanks again :)

We sleep trained and got rid of the dummy at the same time. She was sleeping through within 2 nights. Best thing we ever did! I don't think we were cruel but different strokes for different folks.

We got rid of my sons dummy at 8ish months when he moved into his own cot/room. Figured I would kill two birds with one stone. Took a few weeks but he is now doing 11/12 hours of sleep without wake ups. We went cold turkey and although it was tough to begin with, it's the best thing we did!
