When should you interrupt naps?

Baby is 20 weeks old and has spent most of the day napping.

I didn't really realise how long he'd spent sleeping until now as I was happy to have time to do xyz, give him a quick boob, then get back to it.

I'm now feeling very nervous about the night. Will ask this sleep affect his night sleep? I know naps affect toddler sleep but don't know about this age. He already only sleeps in 2-3 hour stretches, and has done for the last 6??? ish weeks, so I'm feeling very tired and out of sorts as it is.

At any age, whether they're babies or toddlers, they only need a certain number of hours sleep within a 24 hour period so if they've met a large chunk of that quota during the day, they'll be less tired and more active at nighttime.

How did the night go?

@gentlemum the range seems so wide - I've read 12-16 hours at this age?

The night was the same as any other, he woke up after 3.5 hours for a feed, after 2 hours and then again after 3. So in that respect the extra sleep in the day didn't really affect him?

I don't know. I've read that magnesium is supposed to help so I've started taking magnesium supplements as well.

I just feel very tired. Everyone says this is just a phase and it'll pass but I'm not seeing any signs of a light at the end of the tunnel.

@TheBeesKnee glad that the night was ok!

It's so hard what you read online as every baby is different. My son has always been right on the low end of the sleep range and not needed much sleep. I can't remember when I started making sure he didn't sleep too much in the day so it didn't affect night times but I'm sure it wasn't as early as 20 weeks. You've just got to do whatever works for you at the moment. I know it feels like that, everyone says everything is a phase (and it is) but it doesn't feel like that in the moment when it feels it'll never end. Aside from sleep regressions, it gradually does get better over time.
