Where should a 3/4 month old nap?

My baby has outgrown her Moses basket, where she normally sleeps in the day. I gather that she’s too young to be put down for a nap in the nursery or in her next-to-me with a monitor on her. Sleepyheads aren’t safe for sleep. I need somewhere to put her down to nap while I get jobs done etc. But where?! In what?! Thanks!

Pram bassinet/carry cot type thing?

Or do you have a travel cot that could temporarily live in the living room?

AnotherCountryMummy · 22/09/2023 18:38

Why couldn't she be in her nursery in her cot, if you've got a monitor on? I'm not trying to be contrary, I'm worried I'm missing something as I used to do this with mine!

ShadowPuppets · 22/09/2023 18:39

Gosh I’m jealous, I had two that were only napping in arms at that stage!

Bassinet of the pram if you can get it into the house?

mumofbun · 22/09/2023 18:40

Sling, pram or sleepyhead (you'd be there so supervised sleep)

@AnotherCountryMummy baby should only sleep in a room with someone until at least 6 months if following safe sleep guidelines

Sunshineclouds11 · 22/09/2023 18:42

Pram if you want to potter round.
Sleepyhead if your there.

If she's doing chores around the house then she wouldn't be supervised in sleepyhead

DelurkingAJ · 22/09/2023 18:56

With mine, wherever they would sleep, anywhere that they would sleep. But yes, if you have a good napper you could use the top of the pram. Or indeed the pram.

So safe sleep guidence isnt being followed anyway is it...

Thanks @mumofbun!

My baby is the same age and he sleeps in his pram a lot during the day.

Supervised unsafe sleep is still unsafe sleep. Sleepyheads aren't safe and problems that can occur aren't always visible.

mumofbun · 23/09/2023 13:19

@scrantonelectriccity @gentlemum sleepyheads have always been controversial. Like a lot of things it's up to the parent to do their own research and decide. If she's doing chores around the house then she's not staying in the same room with the baby which is what the safe sleep guidance is, so I always put my baby in something I felt was safe in the room I was in. You haven't offered any practical solutions to me or the OP in your posts.

Safe sleep guidance isn't just to be in the same room as the baby, they've got to be in a safe sleep space.
I didn't add any 'practical guidance' as you say as it's been covered in yours and other's posts. Sling or pram/carry cot will be the best options. I just wanted to point out sleepyheads aren't safe and don't become safe just because you're keeping a distant eye on baby. The lullaby trust is a great source of safe sleep guidance.

mumofbun · 23/09/2023 18:51

@gentlemum fully agree about the lullaby trust but like I said it's up to a parent to do their own research and decide. I just described what I do and am happy with following reading several sources.

Ultimately though it's difficult to get much done when they are so young

I completely agree for everyone to do what you feel comfortable with and make your own decisions. It's just important to know the risks so you can make an informed decision.
