Angelcare sensor, false alarms??

Anyone else had this issue? We have the Angelcare sensor pad monitor for our 3 month old and it’s going off several times during the night, I’ve turned the sensitivity up to maximum (4) and it’s still doing it. She’s in a small cot in our room so I’m generally getting to her before the warning beep turns to full alarm and every time she’s breathing normally, quietly, obviously in a deep sleep but she’s not snorting herself awake startled by it or anything. I kind of wish I’d never bought it but now I darent not use it as what in case she really wasn’t breathing?!
we had the previous model for our first baby and never had an issue, couple of alarms but when she was bigger and had crawled to the edge of the big cot. Not sure what to do now!

Throw it in the bin. Best thing I did with mine.

@Snugglemonkey did you have the same problem? I really want to get rid of it but I’m too scared to now, I’m thinking what if she does keep stopping breathing and the beeping rouses her back into breathing again 🙈 I think these things prey on anxious parents, I wouldn’t mind but it’s my third baby I thought I would be more relaxed this time!!

I did have the same problem. It made me so much more anxious. Once I binned it, my anxiety calmed down.

If you are getting lots of false alarms won’t turning the sensitivity up make that worse?

Have you tried repositioning the sensor pad in the cot?

Bagofweasels · 14/09/2023 10:59

@HelpMeUnpickThis i thought higher sensitivity meant it picked up smaller movements and would reduce false alarms?? Have I got this the wrong way round??! 🙈 as in I though more sensitive = more sensitive to movements not more sensitive to NO movement if that makes sense!

I think you need to go the other way so turn the sensitivity way down.

Or as others suggested bin it unless your baby has a high risk of SIDs ( eg premature with a very low birth weight or living in a house with a smoker).

@Coffeaddict thanks I’ll give it a go
