Hi do I have a 5 week old. Now I know he’s extremely young and am aware of the 4th trimester and this isn’t a post about getting him to sleep through.

Im desperate for advice. He will wake for his 3/4am bottle then will not settle after. He will grunt and squirm like absolute crazy! We are thinking maybe he needs to poo but can’t? We are thinking it’s wind have tried Colief, infacol and gripe water all to no avail. He is bottle fed and does not seem to have many wind issues through the day or for his other bottles.

he will settle when picked up and quickly go bk to sleep but if put bk in the next to me begins squirming. For the last 4 nights I have had to sit up with him on my chest in order for him to go bk to sleep peacefully. Obv this is not practical long term and I’m exhausted 😬

does anyone have any advice? Is this normal I’m wondering more than anything? can ride it out if I know it something that could potentially resolve.

should I take him the GP although he’s drinking fine and plenty of wet nappies and pooped anything between 1-3 times a day on average.

Mine did exactly the same thing. Whilst mine is breastfed, I’d say it’s completely normal. They just want to be close to you. It took until about week 10 before mine would sleep in his crib on his own. We did A LOT of co-sleeping. Whilst most warn against it, and I know there are risks, the risks of falling asleep with your baby in a less suitable place, is worse!
Do what you got to do to get that shut eye and feel comfort in the fact this phase is normal and will pass!! 😊

I used to hold DS until he was in a deep enough sleep I could put him back in the next to me. (It’s worth mentioning that if you follow the safe co sleeping guidelines there isn’t a huge amount of difference between that and a bedside crib. Mine was always as reluctant to be put down in the bed as he was in the next to me.) It is a pain but it isn’t forever.

My son can be properly asleep yet will still wake up as soon as you put him down! Day times are the new struggle but as long as I’m getting sleep at night, I don’t mind him lying on me all day haha!
