Wakes every 2hrs for 2oz, hungry or not connecting sleep cycles?

My twins are 19 weeks old, but born prematurely so more like 12 weeks corrected age.
For the first few weeks of being home they continued to follow their NICU/SCBU feeding schedule (which they spent 3 weeks in), waking roughly every 3 hours for a feed. We've never ever had to wake them for a feed, they've always woken themselves since they were about 34.5weeks gestational age /1.5 weeks old!

As time has gone on one twin has started to sleep quite well, esp in the last couple of weeks, often waking at around 12 and 3 for a feed and otherwise sleeping 7-6.30/7.

His brother wakes 2hrly throughout the night (we sometimes get a couple of 3hr stretches at the start of the night..) and always drinks basically exactly 2oz. He seems to fall squarely in the middle of what is said online to be a wake for hunger and a wake out of habit/inability to self settle or connect sleep cycles...does anyone have any experience of this and can shed a light?

For further context:

  • they have a bedtime routine and currently go down fairly easily at night, between 6.45-7.15pm
  • we try to put them down 'drowsy but awake' when possible so they do some self settling
  • we use white noise and blackout blinds
  • they were both swaddled but 2hrly twin has started to roll so now in a sleep sack
-our room is definitely warmer than 20oc most nights as it's a fairly new build flat, so I'm aware it's not the optimum temp
  • I have wondered if they're in the 4month sleep regression as they've both started doing short 30min naps in the day
  • I try hard to follow wake windows in the day, and aim for av 4hrs of sleep which can be hard due to the short catnaps..I generally get one long late morning/lunchtime nap out of them (1.5-2hrs) by doing a long walk
  • they are mainly fed formula now as recently stated to refuse breast but still get a couple of pumped bottles of milk each day

Thanks

Hello,

Looking for experiences of other mums of premature twins.

My twin boys are currently 8 weeks old however corrected age of 3 weeks as they were born at 35 weeks.

Did you find your twins hit growth spurts at the standard estimates times (2/3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months etc) according to their birth date or their due date (corrected age). Health visitor unable to answer question- says she doesn’t know.

just wondering what other experiences are with premature twins so I can identify if they are going through the predicted growth spurts according to either due date or birth date!

also when people say it gets easier from 3 months etc does that mean it’s really 4 months for me?

hope that makes sense

any help appreciated

thanks x
